Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

Hello all, sorry I've not been very active here recently.

I will get the sourceforge download updated to the new Raspbian as soon as I can.

Thanks PIstolero, Joe Schmoe and others for your posts.

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

Yes, that was the idea. I want to try several media players. EDIT: If I replace the img file (2012-07-15-wheezy-raspbian.img), is it just a straight replacement (as in, remove this file and insert new one), or is there some other config I need to change to point to the new one? Alternatively, can I...

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

I feel like an idiot but I don't even know how to install software like OpenELEC. The website's instructions are assuming I'm building an SD card... obviously I don't have one yet! How can I download and install OpenELEC to this QEMU Rasbian build? I'm running Windows 7. I tried their instruction t...

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

Does qemu-img do the the filesystem resizing as well (or does it, as I suspect, just do the partition resize - the equivalent of the "fdisk" steps if you were on a "real pi") ? Hi Joe, thanks for highlighting this, I will have a look when I get a chance. Has anybody tried resizing the image then do...

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

For anybody who already has a raspbian image downloaded and just wants the qemu folder and kernel, it can now be downloaded here http://sourceforge.net/projects/rpiqemuwindows/files/no%20image/ Just put your image in the folder and change the file named in the run.bat file as described in the readme...

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

@Dilligaf Which image did you use? raspbmc or openelec ? (if you are looking for a real openelec image, you can find them here: http://sparky0815.de/openelec-download-images-fat-files/) I tried openelec and already got stuck in the booting process. Qemu has problems mounting the fat partition i thi...

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

Gah, can't wait for that! I'll definitely spend some time on Raspbian this weekend, then. I've got 3 months to figure out what the heck I'm doing  Definitely excited to get this set up, though. I find nothing answers questions faster than trying it out first. That, and Google. Then forums. Jus...

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

Heh, I've just finished downloading your previously bundled files. Should I download the whole thing again once you put up the new version, or is there a shortcut I can take? The new upload has the official Raspbian, the latest qemu for windows and a new kernel for arm1176. If you have the old vers...

Misread your post..

The new version emulates arm1176 and has a new kernel compiled for arm1176.

Compressing now, will upload tonight if it is done any time soon.

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

I installed Oracle VirtualBox and then installed the Debian squeeze and ran it in the virtual machine and got it to work like a RPi. That was fun. There was a video that explained how to do it and it was at http://www.debianperu.org/archives/1050 Sounds interesting. Does VirtualBox emulate the ARM ...

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

Hi! I found that in your qemu/run.bat file the emulated CPU is set to arm1136-r2, whether it should be rather set to arm1176. Hi there, that seemed to work best. I am testing Raspian on the latest qemu for windows at the moment, it is looking good, the issue with the colours is resolved (the raspbe...

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

What's a "zip folder"??? It sounds dangerous to me. Like a zip gun or something. I'm sure you know what I meant Joe, but just in case anybody else is confused, when I say zip folder I mean a folder or directory and all of its contents, that has been compressed and saved as a .zip file. On a more fl...

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

LATEST UPDATE I will be uploading new zip folders for debian squeeze and wheezy with the latest qemu for windows, next day or two, depending on when I am next near fast internet. Sorry for the delay, very busy at the moment. The latest qemu seems to have normal colour and networking working so far. ...

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

this should be a simple question. if I do work on a given image, create/save files, install programs, etc. these files persist in the image; meaning that if I shutdown qemu and boot it back up, the data is still there. Can I still use this 'modified' image on my raspberry pi or should I consider wh...

Re: Export os from virtualbox to sd card?

If you need to set it up before you install to the sd card, QEMU is the way to do it. It will allow you to emulate the arm chip on windows/mac/linux i386.

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

I am wondering if it is possible to use the emulator as is for the wheezy beta image. I could add the wheezy image to the RPi Emulation\quemu directory and alter the run.bat in that directory to use the new image but not sure about the zImage_3.1.9. I hear wheezy is a real improvement over squeezy....
