Re: Threading problem

Just wanted to say thanks as I managed to get it to work. Putting the test around the show did the trick, just had to make sure that the variables were declared as global in every function I used them in. So, everything works as I wanted.... Then I unplug the large monitor I've been using to test wi...

Re: Threading problem

This is brilliant. Thank you. No idea why it never occurred to me to put the condition around the show(). I should have spotted that. The lights_on was one of the things i'd tried but got the issue with the being part way through the loop. I'll give this a try tomorrow and let you know how I get on....

Re: Threading problem

Thanks for the reply. I was indeed trying to pass a Boolean. I think the issue was due to it being part way through its loop. This is the code for the lights that's being run on the separate thread. def LightThread(): while LIGHTS: for step in range(4): for channel in range(3): for pixel in range(mo...

Threading problem

Hi, I've been stuck on this all day and have decided that now is the time to ask for help. I have a program that does some stuff. Initially it waits for the user to press a button before it starts. While waiting for the user to press the button, I have a load of lovely flashing/colour changing LEDs....

Re: Noobs hangs at 1% extracting file system

Hi, Having had this issue on and off for a few months, I thought I would share how i fixed it. You need to reformat the card using the SD card formatter from the official SD card people. The thing to note is that you will need v4. The latest version (5) wont do what you need to do to fix this. Once ...

Re: Pi3 Wireless access point speed

Thats really interesting. Thanks for posting. I wouldnt mind if i got the 3MB/s consistently (which sometimes i do), it was the fact that it fluctuates wildly that i was hoping to stop. the transfer seems to stop for a few seconds every 15-20 seconds. It doesnt disconnect, it just slows to a stop an...

Re: Pi3 Wireless access point speed

Sorry, you are right, i should have said 3 MB/s to the HDD. The power could be issue.... I'm using an official power supply that is plugged into an extension lead that i put together. This (i'm pretty sure) is ok but there are questions about the power to the plug socket that its plugged into. It's ...

Pi3 Wireless access point speed

Hi, I have a RPi3 that is setup as a timelapse camera. It is located in a sealed box 20ft up a pole and as it would be awkward to remove the SD card to copy the pictures off, I set up the pi to act as a wireless access point (there is no internet access at the location). I can then connect my laptop...

Re: Running a Python script from a php page

I made the .py file executable for everyone.
Not a particular fan of doing this but as its not accessible from outside my home network, I'm not too worried.

I'll try running the line you added and see what happens.

thanks.

Re: Running a Python script from a php page

Thanks fro the reply. I wasnt sure where to pose this question but plumped for here as there was another similar question in this section. I cant ditch apache and php as thats what the streaming side of the project uses. If anyone has any ideas as to a different way i can run either python or termin...

Running a Python script from a php page

Hi, I have a NoIR camera and a BrightPi that I'm using as a video baby monitor. I'm using RPi Web Cam Interface to stream to a browser and have this working great. I have amended the main web page so that it just shows the stream and 2 buttons. the buttons will turn the BrightPI IR leds on and off. ...

Re: BrightPi not working

I thought the same thing. I used the terminal to run the code and i couldnt see the red glow that had been mentioned in the documentation. However, if you turn the brightness right up (there is a terminal command to do this) then you can see the red glow. The other way is to preview the IR camera (I...

Re: Connecting wind and rain sensors (build your own station

Sorted it.
I was being a numpty.

Basically, i got confused between pin5 and BCM pin5.

Pin5 is physically pin29.

connected the other wire to gnd and all is good.

thanks

Re: Connecting wind and rain sensors (build your own station

Ah, that sounds vaguely familiar. when i initially tried the wind speed sensor i wired it up as per the button example on the worksheet and it worked great. I have script that logs the temp and air pressure and was trying to integrate my test wind speed code into that. Actually.....looking at the sc...

I tried both of these and neither seemed to work.
I'll check the connections and try again.

thanks for the reply though.
the fact that you thought the same as i did initially stops me trying to second guess myself.

cheers

Re: Connecting wind and rain sensors (build your own station

Hi, Was set to finally do some testing of the integration of the wind speed code into my main script but have hit a bit of a problem. I have soldered some 'legs' onto a connector so that I can just plug the wind speed sensor into the breadboard and then connect from there to the pi. The problem is t...

I dont have any of my own code to share as this is the next thing that i will be doing once i've tested the wind speed and rain gauge but have you looked at the examples on the main site? This one may point you in the right direction... https://www.raspberrypi.org/learning/weather-station-guide/wind...

Re: code for windspeed/direction and rain

Thats brilliant thanks.

I found some example code that is a much simpler version of this that it looks like I could incorporate into my script, but this looks much more like what I will need for a final version.

I'll have a play and see where I get to.

Thanks for the help.

code for windspeed/direction and rain

Hi, I've been building my own version of the weather station and in the end decided that it would be a greater learning experience if I tried to write the code myself (or at least assemble it from differing sources). I currently have a script that will get the temperature and air pressure every minu...

Re: Connecting wind and rain sensors (build your own station

Yes, that helps a lot. :-) I've since managed to connect up a small display as well as the sensor (both I2C) and get it to display the temp and pressure after every reading. Another thing that I've started to do is to try and document the whole process. Still got a couple more stages to go till I'm ...

Re: Connecting wind and rain sensors (build your own station

Ok, this is probably a silly question but I've got 1 sensor board (BMP280) that I've connected using I2C and am looking at other sensors that also use I2C (including a display) Can I connect them to the same clock and data pin on the Pi? Or do I need to do something different with the connections? t...

Re: Pixel and RealVNC

I have had some success since my first post. The fresh install still insists it doesn't want to play. However, I have upgraded an existing installation and that works without any issues. Perhaps this is an issue with the new image? I used the NOOBS installer rather than getting the raspbian image di...

Raspbian with RPI Desktop and RealVNC

Hi, I've just done a clean install of the latest image (including Pixel) and all went swimmingly until I tried to get realVNC up and running. I've enabled it in the settings but while I can start the Viewer, I cant seem to get the server started. I know it's now supposed to start automatically but a...
