Re: Arch Linux ARM on Raspberry Pi 4

I solved the problem with th 2nd card. The files had zero bytes. I don't know how that happened. I could delete them, insert the card into th PC and copy the files again and it worked. It's so far the only way that I found to run stockfish-chess on a pi with 1900kn/s instead of the 1070kn/s with ras...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on Raspberry Pi 4

I got it working now on another TV. Manjaro did not recognize the one TV correctly, (or vice versa) , same as with the pi4B-raspbian booting cards. However there I could solve it by booting from the pi3 and then switching the HDMI cable to the pi4. This does not work with Manjaro. (no signal) I didn...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on Raspberry Pi 4

I prepared 2 sd-cards ,minimal version, and tested them on 2 pi4bs . None worked.

It could also be due to the supposed incompatibility of my TV and the 4b,
which I usually solve by first booting the pi3b and then switching the HDMI-cable

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

I'm not 100% sure, that it was 101 , maybe 110 or I01. "error 101 , error when initializing SD-card" (or similar) It did show the 4 raspberries and the text below them on a black screen AFAIR. Happened with 3 different cards, that worked fine in another pi4b. Happened after I had fixed a heatsink wi...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

You "washed it"? I think I found your problem... with soap.... to remove possible ramaining cooling paste (which is conductive) the pi4b was unusable before that because of that 101-error (which occured on 3 different booting cards) So this washing was just a last desperate attempt. The first boot ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

seems that I destroyed mt pi 4b by trying to fix the heatsink with arcti silver heat-paste . I'm not sure if that was the reason, though. It reported a " 101 error when initializing the SD-card " I removed the heatsink, carefully wiped the leaked heatpaste , nothing. Washed it with soap , now it won...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

now I figured out how to measure CPU-temperature https://praxistipps.chip.de/raspberry-p ... ehts_46615 vcgencmd measure_temp the pi4b running stockfish with 4 threads gets to 82C after ~10min without any heatsink and kn/s go down to 920kn/s (continues to fall , I once had ~740kn/s after 1 day) ) af...

pi 4b HDMI during boot

I had several problems booting any of my 3 pi 4bs, while my pi 3b worked fine. First I thought it was the cards, but they were all bought from pihat , were never inderted into PC and finally I once got all 3 pi 4b booting correctly. But later problems appeared again. It took me many hours ... but I ...

Re: pi vs. tablet

you can still run Linux or freedos on x86. And much easier.
The new Intel Atom chips seem not so expensive and powerhungry,
I think it wasn't available in 2012

DougieLawson, [why use the x86] as mentioned before, because of all these old programs, decades of programming efforts, that no longer run on the ARM. Especially in education, Universities. But also office, business. There are no adequate replacements yet for ARM. You also saw it with operation syst...

Re: pi vs. tablet

heater, the x86 may become more common and cheap and it supports the old software, more suitable for education where the pi was designed for. While the ARM-thing is more for the masses, pictures, internet and such. So, if x86 is equally available in mini-platines and similarly priced in future, [and...

rurwin, there should be a conversion tool, that converts my DOS-commands to their Linux(-dialect) correspondents. foldable like paper. Or expandable.
So you can have a full PC, with the size of a smartphone when folded

Re: pi vs. tablet

pithagoras, they could stop the current pis now and restart with x86-pis I'm aware, this would be an undesirable discontinuation, but you have to plan for the longterm future of the British (and others to follow ?) education system ... Or use ARM and x86 together and work on better conversion betwee...
