Re: raw minimal pi , autorun

so, are any autostart images available for ARM ? Just commandline, no graphics,no keyboard, no mouse, no USB, no bluetooth, no Internet, no screen, no HDMI. No file system just reading/writing raw sectors/blocks to the card. As we could _easily_ do with DOS and autoexec.bat 30 years ago on a 1MB flo...

Re: raw minimal pi , autorun

yes, for most purposes it doesn't presumably matter much. But in the back of my head I had chess-analysis, that's why I checked and compared the pi4B(1850kn/s in Gentoo), the odroidN2,(2400kn/s in Android,4 cores) the Z3735 tablets (1600kn/s in Android). And modern chess programs use bit-boards wher...

Re: raw minimal pi , autorun

the disadvantage is that wifi has to be configured, it's probably not so easily automized.
Ethernet gives additional cables -:(
And raspian has no 64-bit for reduced computation power (~70%,I guess)

Re: raw minimal pi , autorun

please, don't let such posts discourage us. I think it's an interesting and important topic for the pi-community. Apparantly not yet addressed and solved. The difference to the other thread "multiple pis from desktop" is that I allow manual datatransfer by inserting and removing cards here. Just in ...

raw minimal pi , autorun

I want to autorun the program ./first on the booting card , or the script first.sh. In a directory where everything is free to read/write/execute. And no user input, like passwords are required. Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

it should be possible (and easy) to change the temperature at which it throttles. It could be default 50C or such in one special image offered to schools, classes if it failed due to thermal stress, then it would be under warranty. why worry. my only two (and a half) problems are the same from the st...

can I run several pi4s from my notebook wirelessly, just uploading files to them, running them, downloading the resulting files ? Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

when it throttles, it's not just slower but also the measurements are deranged. It becomes unpredictable. It depends on the ambient temperature. It's not easily reproducable. Often you measure the running time of a program and predict the complexity of the task from it. When you run a chess-tourname...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

come on, it is one possible feature of the pi to do intensive calculations. The reason why some are building clusters from pis, I use it for chess analysis, calculating days, weeks (months, years ?) at full load on a chess position. Or on math-problems. Or puzzles. That's where the pi4b is good : mas...

Re: Updated 64-bit Gentoo Image for RPi3 Released (now also for RPi3B+ and RPi4B)

isn't it possible/easy to make a 1.7GB compressed image on the sd-card instead,
and on first boot just load a raw decompressor first which creates the full 13GM
image and then boots gentoo ?

thanks. Seems that it worked now for me : 1723100964 bytes compressed, downloaded in 3 hours now , >13GB uncompressed. The earlier problems were maybe on my part, some recent unresolved computer problems. I never downloaded raspbian, you can buy the prepared cards. Now creating the card ....20min , ...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on Raspberry Pi 4

I solved the problem with th 2nd card. The files had zero bytes. I don't know how that happened. I could delete them, insert the card into th PC and copy the files again and it worked. It's so far the only way that I found to run stockfish-chess on a pi with 1900kn/s instead of the 1070kn/s with ras...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on Raspberry Pi 4

I got it working now on another TV. Manjaro did not recognize the one TV correctly, (or vice versa) , same as with the pi4B-raspbian booting cards. However there I could solve it by booting from the pi3 and then switching the HDMI cable to the pi4. This does not work with Manjaro. (no signal) I didn...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on Raspberry Pi 4

I prepared 2 sd-cards ,minimal version, and tested them on 2 pi4bs . None worked.

It could also be due to the supposed incompatibility of my TV and the 4b,
which I usually solve by first booting the pi3b and then switching the HDMI-cable

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

I'm not 100% sure, that it was 101 , maybe 110 or I01. "error 101 , error when initializing SD-card" (or similar) It did show the 4 raspberries and the text below them on a black screen AFAIR. Happened with 3 different cards, that worked fine in another pi4b. Happened after I had fixed a heatsink wi...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

You "washed it"? I think I found your problem... with soap.... to remove possible ramaining cooling paste (which is conductive) the pi4b was unusable before that because of that 101-error (which occured on 3 different booting cards) So this washing was just a last desperate attempt. The first boot ...
