Re: Whole-House CCTV System

Another option is if you have some old android or iphones gathering dust in a cupboard is to use a free app like Alfred (link below)
https://alfred.camera/

You can tie them all together and monitor them through a web browser or app.

Is the RPi "just" an educational tool ?

Has the RPi outgrown its intended purpose as an educational tool ? Often I see replies to questions where the response is, why would you want to do that, the RPI was intended as an educational tool ! or those features are not needed as the Pi is intended for education! I think the Pi has developed a...

Re: Gigabit Ethernet at this stage?

One way to test if there really is a desire for Gigabit Ethernet or other upgrades could be to run something like a kickstarter campaign where all the money is ploughed into the design and adding those features.

If people want it they can prove it by pledging !

What about using a pair of powerline adapters using the ethernet instead and also a lot faster than a wifi dongle.

For a minimalistic word processor aimed at writers you could also try FocusWriter

AntiMicro seems to do the same job (a quick search in google). Its available in ubuntu so in theory should work in raspbian, may need to be recompiled, you'll need to figure that bit out, but there are plenty of guides around.

Lua and Gideros

Looks as if they've gone a long way getting this up and running on the Pi, though from the blog post it appears for the moment the Pi is just being used for development with the player running to slow due to not having openGL support, something should be fixed soon with the release of the new driver...

Would be nice to see a blog post up about this, with a few screenies, that would certainly get the interest going. I have no idea of the project but would something like this have the ability to have others contribute to quests etc.

Nice article on the BBC on how Raspberry Pi computers are being used to power "micro" radio transmitters in Syria as a way of providing Syrians with independent radio.

Just wanted to say what a brilliant thing you guys are doing. I would love to see an article on the main blog page or the MagPi showcasing what you have done, how you went about it, challenges, etc. :) and that would surely bring this great effort to the attention of even more people.
