Re: Best way to power 4 x Raspberry Pi

as an alternative suggestion for an off the shelf component the cheapest corsair (just for example, any brand would be about the same) ATX computer power supply i could find listed has 20 amps on the 5 volt rail, has connectors on the mains side so you don't have to wire up anything running high vol...

Re: We're looking at introducing more swag - what would you like to see?

Small stickers with "Raspberry Pi inside" or "Powered by Raspberry Pi", similar to those computers with Intel chips have, for all the embedded projects out there. I would like this, perhaps more in the theme of the silver case badge style stickers you see if you google "powered by debian" than mimi...

Re: Showing a Pi can replace a standard computer

Pi server or any sort of remote desktop might be worth it, as people can use that to access faster servers if the Pi itself isn't fast enough. Definitely worth it. I have about 40 users who have a pi3 on their desk with a regular keyboard/mouse/monitor that connect back to a 24 core XEON, 128gb of ...

Re: Car engine controls help needed.

the two sides of the coil are actually separated like in all transformers, the high voltage in the secondary coil is induced by the collapse of the electromagnetic field in the primary coil which is its 12v side. If you have a CDI ignition or something like an MSD and the low voltage side of the coi...

Re: Car engine controls help needed.

i feel like there might be some confustion here. you don't get the timing signal from the plug side of the coil, even on a stock ignition system thats 10,000+ volts and an aftermarket system can be 45,000 volts if you need to read when a plug is firing then you do it from the cold side of the coil/d...

Re: Looking for Digital Display App For Web Pages with Rotation

if they are pages you can edit (or can be loaded within a frame) then a quick and dirty way to do it is to use a meta refresh line and have them call the next page you would like and eventually have the last call the first https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta_refresh then you can just fullscreen or ki...

I'm not sure what browser your screen shot was from, but this should work for Firefox or Chrome until the people maintaining the CSS get round to fixing the width issues. I'm happy to wait till the good people massaging the code decide what to do, half the web pages out there look like that on a 25...

We will still need mechanical drives for a while yet, Data on an SSD that's left turned off can be gone in as little as 12 months depending on the climate you live in.

Not great for archival data or backups.

It is of no real surprise that we are down to basically 2 hard drive manufacturers though.

Re: Speeding up Dosbox

Pi 3 with an overclock to 1400mhz and the right tweaks can play doom at 35fps which is the engine's max internal frame rate unless you are running a timedemo. Descent, Warcraft 2, wing commander 3 are all very playable. I even had dungeon keeper going the other day.

Re: Speeding up Dosbox

I have never had an issue with the audio, just make sure the version you use is compiled for the pi3 with neon and etc support. X slows it down a lot, and i always use surface output some good speed gains can be had by some video tweaks though. if your game is 320x200 and if you have a 1080p widescr...

thats not so much an error as telling you that you have no midi device. you could run timidity or the like in server mode that would work for general midi games but wing commander only supports adlib or MT32. Re: Why the Raspberry Pi 4 wishlists are tough sells

given this appears to be a thing that potentially exists

http://www.bplus.com.tw/ExtenderBoard/EXM2E.html

my guess for pi4/5/6/Z/Zx is m.2 on the SDIO bus rather than the USB bus or native in the chipset

clearly its a wild guess though. happy to be wrong :P

Re: Why the Raspberry Pi 4 wishlists are tough sells

That idea has been made before. Have you considered trying to find a M-F Right Angled USB adapter so that, while the USB is along a different edge, the cable still goes in the sam direction as the others? this is my current solution Or, alternatively, take a look at the WD SATA Adapter. Apart from ...

Re: Why the Raspberry Pi 4 wishlists are tough sells

I would be happy with the pi4 being exactly the same specs as the pi3 but with the connectors all along one edge rather than all around

even a pi3a with the the usb connector rotated around to be on the same edge as the hdmi connector

'tis but a dream ;)

http://www.mini-box.com.au/documents/PW ... manual.pdf

you can see in the manual for the larger of the pico psus that the 5VSB sustanied maximum current is 1.5A

even on a full sized ATX power supply 5vsb is only ever a couple of amps maximum

Re: Raspberry Pi Tower

Pico PSU is an ATX Power supply so theres no need for two latching circuits. you run your latching circuit from the +5vsb line which is always powered and have it toggle a relay/transistor/etc that grounds the "power on" signal line, on a regular ATX power supply with a cable this would be the green...

Re: Raspberry Pi Tower

if it makes your project easier you can get fans that are designed for 12volts or if you choose carefully then one that is designed but will still spin at 5 volts

also 2.5" drives only need 5 volts not 12, 12 is needed on 3.5" drives

you can totally do your project with only a 5 volt power supply

Re: Speeding up Dosbox

I finally got a chance to compile a copy of dosbox last night for the pi3, without even doing anything fancy or even putting in SDL2. a Doom timedemo3 benchmark that would run about 18fps on a heavily overclocked pi2 runs about 30fps on a pi3 without any overclocking, stretched to full screen and wi...
