Re: MagPi82 Build an Led Torch wrong wiring?

Our apologies for this. The writer has been notified.

We have added replacement images to the Digital Edition and added Errata (and the new breadboard images) to the issues page.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Re: Etcher instruction wrong Issue 81

It depends. The fastest route from A -> B to set up a Retro Gaming console is to buy a retro console from a shop and plug it in :-) So the point for Raspberry Pi is to learn computing skills. And we learn by doing. Hence the steps. I am open to the conversation. But it isn't a right/wrong dynamic. T...

Re: Etcher instruction wrong Issue 81

I wrote those instructions and went through the process by hand. I prefer recommending newcomers to Etcher as it's easier to follow than other flashing programs. It's true that you don't need to unzip the image file for Etcher but I prefer to show folks the manual process without them hitting a bric...

Re: Pong reloaded // MagPi77 //pygamezero

Ah, it's a logic error then. I haven't fixed it but is related to the screen.draw.text nested inside winner(). This function is not being called. It seems to be repeating the score update in the draw() function so the winner() function should return to that function() (rather than trying to update t...

Re: Surprised to see you promoting W10

In light of the legitimate concerns regarding Windows 10 I have removed the link from the Windows 10 story and added this note to the story: Editor's note. Several readers have raised the point that there is no official means to get hold of a Windows 10 for ARM installer.  Microsoft is working with ...

Re: Getting individual pages from magazines - remix?

PDF Miner is worth looking at as well

https://pypi.org/project/pdfminer/

PDF Miner is a MIT / OSI license. I think it's worth pointing out that InDesign documents aren't open source at all (a personal bugbear of mine) and InDesign isn't a cheap program either.

Re: Getting individual pages from magazines - remix?

The InDesign documents don't always contain the final information. And we could update the PDF after it goes on sale, for a variety of reasons (safety, technical, legal etc). We're open to the conversation, but you can extract the text and images from the PDF and they are available under the creativ...

Re: Subscription ended with no reminder

We've fixed this and new subscriptions should automatically renew. (This saves everybody a lot of trouble).

Plus! If you took out an earlier non-renewing subscription you'll get reminders to renew when the issue is finished.

Let us know if you see missing issues again and we will wipe the cache.

Re: Regards x86 Raspberry Pi Desktop Issue 74

Thanks for the spot. We've added a note to the errata. This is annoying to us also, especially because it's happened before and we know how important it is to get it right. It is all too easy a mistake to make but you're right: it is our responsibility to check for it. We'll make sure to remind our ...

We're still looking into this. It is most vexing. Here's an insider tip. You can access any of our issues directly using our shortlink and just the issue number magpi.cc/74 You can also directly access the PDF using the issue number and read, ie: magpi.cc/74read or magpi.cc/73read. We use these to q...

Yes. Look closely and you'll see it's displaying the background of the Hello World advert. It's a darkened image of a school classroom. Here is the image.

Re: Missing issues in online catalogue

We're currently looking into this. It seems to be a browser-based error and we see it in different browser / computer setups. I can see all the latest issues using Chrome on a Mac, but not Safari.

In the meantime try using a different browser and you should be able to see all the issues.

We've replaced the tutorial with Make A Talking Web Browser (that was scheduled for Issue 68). In the interim we removed the tutorial from the PDF (hence the two missing pages). Perhaps you have a cached copy? Refresh your browser and you should get the new one including a new contents, cover, welco...

We are running a competition to give away 10 Vision Kits so enter that while you wait. Google is producing more kits and they should be coming out in the next few months (fingers crossed). I can't give an exact price as I know they're juggling the exact components, but it won't be anywhere near that...

It refers to the Menu Item which is listed as Programming > Python 3 (IDLE).

I like to refer to the precise menu item names so as not to confuse newcomers (who might look for Python 3 (IDLE3) in the menu but not find it and wonder if their installation is wrong).

The disc is a DVD, not a CD.

Are you sure the Mac has a DVD drive and not an old CD drive (Apple sold CD drives for longer than other makers). You can check using Apple > About This Mac.

I had it running on a Thinkpad T420 alongside Windows using two separate hard drives. Even that is a bit cranky and it's best to have Linux as your Primary boot drive and Windows as the Secondary drive (as GRUB can load Raspberry Pi Desktop and Windows). I wouldn't go near partitioning on a single d...

That's what I thought. But I don't want to tell people to put whatever they want as it gets confusing for tutorials. I'd rather just have the one file naming convention
