Re: SpaceCRAFT Lesson

Hi thanks Scotty, I assume you mean run a sudo apt-get update command? I don't need to download and install an entire new build do I ?

Re: Minecraft Pi installed, but no mcpi folder

We added Python 3 support a couple of months ago. Run ```bash sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade ``` from the Terminal and you'll have the Python 3 version too. I'll stop short of saying this isn't true, you may very well have added support for Python 3. However the lessons that call for Pyth...

Re: Minecraft Pi installed, but no mcpi folder

AdamMercado, you saved us with your research and careful explanations. Thanks very much. Thank you for the reply. I'm glad my rant was in some small way a little help. I wish I was able to help more, I'm such a beginner too as I stumble my way through learning this platform. It is a shame, but some...

Re: Minecraft Pi installed, but no mcpi folder

Thanks much folks for the replies. After a lot of headbanging and digging around the 'net I found out that in earlier versions of MC that did not come pre installed there was an mcpi folder where all the API files were located. It took forever to realize that things are much different I later versio...

Re: Headless Shutdown

Thank you for the replies. I ended up just yanking the power cable. Hope no files got corrupted. Oh well.

Good to know about the composite. I could have just plugged into a composite port on the monitor and been fine. I'll know for next time :)

Cheers

Headless Shutdown

Dumb beginner question here. Shoot me now. I managed to boot up my Pi 2 without the monitor being turned on, so now the display stays dark even when turned on. Tried changing the input and power cycling but I guess it was not detected by the Pi at boot so its not going to send a signal that way. so ...

Re: Multiple frustrations during setup...

Well there is a counter argument that a lot is learnt whilst trying solve a problem. If everything went so smoothly then a lot of knowledge could be missed. 3 years ago when I got my first pi I had similar frustrations as Linux was completely new to me. You can still see my rant posts on these foru...

Re: Multiple frustrations during setup...

Without wishing to stir the pot, but seeing as it has come up... The pi is being marketed, or at the very least is attractive to, kids and teachers looking to dip their toe into the world of programming and development. Naturally it also appeals to the elite geeky types who want to hack and create a...

If anyone finds it useful I love the work Spsn has done and compiled what I could at the time into setup tutorials if it helps anyone http://www.raspians.com/knowledgebase-section/games/blocky/ This whole endeavor is quite amazing. Like many here I too have a son that is nuts over minecraft. He is ...

Re: Input/output error

You don't state this in your question, but you may have already done so apologies if so

My advice for any network related interruptions (power outages etc) is to reboot your modem/router and any other related gear. Usually fixes network problems right away. Maybe it will here

Good luck

Re: Minecraft Pi installed, but no mcpi folder

Okay, still no luck and started to really ticked off. This is supposed to be easy for teachers and kids. I've followed numerous basic beginner lessons over the past two weeks and none of them yield anything close to the correct result. I am not an idiot, I know it's not me. I've used computers for a...

Okay, thanks for the tip about international configure options. Was successfully able to set my keyboard up as a U.S. English Macintosh version. Are you referring to this Python code? from mcpi import minecraft mc = minecraft.Minecraft.create() mc.postToChat("Hello world") refused"). I tried it again when I had a Minecraft game running, and all three lines worked (and "Hello world" appeared in front of the player.) Great reply. Thanks for t...

Re: Mac USB keyboard

Have you configured the keyboard for your country? The Pi is set to a UK keyboard by default, and going by your location you might need to change it using "sudo raspi-config", choosing "4 Internationalisation Options", then setting your Locale (language), Timezone and Keyboard layout, before reboot...

Mac USB keyboard

Sorry if this question gets asked a lot. The search function would not return results for "Mac USB keyboard" only Mac, or USB, or keyboard. And there are over 9000 results and who has time to sift through that. Is there any difference between Mac USB keyboard and generic or PC ones? I ask as the Mac...

I think you might be following an outdated tutorial. Try this one: https://www.raspberrypi.org/learning/getting-started-with-minecraft-pi/ (There will not be an mcpi folder in your home directory unless you choose to create one. If you are able to run and interact with MineCraft then it is clearly ...

Minecraft Pi installed, but no mcpi folder

Hi, total Pi noob here. Recently got a Pi B kit with an SD card already set up with Rasbian so my son can learn a little programming with Python. It's a great little bit of kit and we are really excited to set off on this path of learning. The resources available are great and so appreciated. So far...
