Re: Which Router is "Pi friendly?

I use a Ubiquiti USG 4 Pro router and WAPs and all my Pis work fine. Also ok with a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite.

Re: Measuring number of devices connected to a router python

My Unifi WAPs with their software running an a Pi does this nicely. You can have 4 SSIDs on each radio and assign users to a particular SSID. You can get data rates, usage and time used from the software and data is collected in a DB so you could probably also analyse it too.

I’ve seen some routers do this scenario before. You need to delete the old assigned address from the router.

Your PC is not connected to your network. The 169 addresses like that are assigned when a machine cannot get a DHCP address because it’s not connected to a network.

I’ve got both 8 port(4 of which have PoE), non rack mountable and 16 port (all ports PoE) rack mountable running Pi’s. The are both Ubiquiti and work very well.

Hidden SSIDs are useless, just like a chocolate teapot, so easy to circumvent it’s not worth the effort.

I certainly ordered the correct one and paid the lower amount for it. Got the higher priced new one, exactly like your posted photo, easy to see the difference, shapes, plug style and colour all different.

Re: A warning about the new ELUTENG USB-SATA adapter.

I ordered one of the old ones from Amazon UK yesterday, arrived today and it was the new one!!! The package was marked “new”, the new one is more expensive than the old one, but I was charged the lower price. Returned as “wrong item sent”. So be aware if you order the old one from Amazon UK you will...

Ok. All my machines are member servers or ad dc. I hate defaults, you only have to read that about the parameter to see the ifs and buts concerned.

I thought you needed a serve role in smb.conf, either standalone,dc,member or ad.

server role = standalone

Samba AD works fine under Raspbian, been running it for many months on my domain. 1 x AD domain controllers, 4 x PI servers and 1 x Windoze 10. Search the net, that where I got my info. Out of the country at the moments so cannot, for now, supply further details.

Re: Software to control a watering system

I use OpenSprinkler with a PI2, had it for over two years with no trouble. The interface on an iPad and iPhone are very good apps, which make it very easy to use. All I had to do was buy a 24v transformer, as it powers the OpenSprinkler board with PI attached and all the valves.

You do not need to send anything from the Pi. You just set up a scheduled task to run to wake up the windows PC, there is a flag in the schedule to get it to wake up.

Well every circuit, all 12 of them, in my house are protected by separate RCBOs (residual-current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection). These are 30ma trip current with a trip time of less than 30ms. They use a current transformer which measures the current out on the line connection to the ...

Re: pi boot pi from external usb drive

From my interpretation of what the OP wants is to boot from a USB drive, but with a SD card inserted. That’s what he said. From my understanding of USB boot, the only way you can perhaps achieve this is to have an SD card inserted that does not have a boot partition on it! Why you would want this I ...
