Re: Setup wireless adapter with Rpi 3 b+

One way is to check your router's active associated MAC addresses vs. MAC addresses assigned to your interfaces.
Assuming nothing is connected to the ethernet port, if you disable the onboard wifi (per above) then your USB adapter is the point of WIFI connection.
HTH

From my Pi3b+ config.sys (some for future reference)

Code: Select all

# Optionally disable wifi/bt
dtoverlay=pi3-disable-wifi
#dtoverlay=pi3-disable-bt

That's great advice, ascender89. He will learn a lot from the bringup of his Pi (see my sig :))

Re: Complete beginner - Garage Door Dedection

IMO, a 3B+ is overkill, if it's only task is to monitor the garage door. A Pi0WH (with headers installed, so no soldering) will suffice. I monitor my entry doors with Pi0Ws + Pi Cameras + Pikrellcam. Works great. Your use case will probably use much less CPU and memory than mine. Are you doing this...

Re: I'll pay to create a raspberry pie os!

Give them Pi's and Internet access and let them loose. +1 In a junior year OS theory class (back in 1974 :)) the first semester was spent learning OS design/theory. The second semester, we had only one task: design, code, test, and demonstrate a functional operating system. We (12 of us, IIRC) did ...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

I had a go at adding the new AWB 'greyworld' parameter to Pikrellcam for V2 NoIR cameras (see sticky at top of camera forum by jamesh). It's rather trivial :) As of this writing, you will need to run rpi-update to get the newest firmware. That will change soon, I assume. In ~/pikrellcam/src/config.c...

The first step I would take - check with my insurance agent to verify that any personal injury and/or property damage, caused by a DIY high temperature appliance, would be covered.

I already know what my agent would say.

Re: Anyone in the US need an official Pi4 UK power supply?

Thanks for the suggestion. I considered that, but I'm rather anal (can I say that?) about reliable power. It would cost about $8 to get an adapter I would be comfy with.
Should I be so lucky to get my hands on a 4B4GB I'll buy a US version (locally :D ) for about the same price.
So the offer stands.

Solved: Anyone in the US need an official Pi4 UK power supply?

In my haste on launch day I mistakenly ordered a UK power supply. I realized within a few minutes, and contacted the seller's support, but was told it was too late to change the order (even though it didn't ship for 4 days  ) It costs more to ship it back to the UK than it's worth. Rather than...

Re: 4k 60 hz is not listed, only 30hz

Update: did same with Pi4 and now it's running at 4kp60.
Seems to be monitor wonkiness and not the Pi4, at least in regard to my particular monitor.
YMMV.

Re: 4k 60 hz is not listed, only 30hz

I've been dealing with a similar (if not identical) issue with 4kp60. My monitor is a Samsung U28E590. Samsung says HDMI2 can push 4kp60. I could not get 4kp60 from either my Pi42M (config.txt was correct) or my Windows 10 desktop, regardless of HDMI port. I switched my Win10 box to 2560x1440 @ 60Hz...

Re: TypeError: lcd_string() missing 1 required positional argument: 'style'

Try:

Code: Select all

lcd_byte(1, LCD_CMD)
lcd_string(rbuff, LCD_LINE_1)
Assuming, of course, that LCD_CMD and LCD_LINE_1 are correct.

Re: HDMI output with RPi-Cam-Web-Interface and Pikrellcam

I use solar backed batteries. The Pi0s connect to a long range outdoor Wifi AP. I disable on board wifi and bluetooth, and use external USB wifi adapters with high gain antennae. To get notifications, this is my approach. I'm sure it could be improved on :) 1) Install some stuff (if not already inst...
