Apt upgrade, dist-upgrade fully automatically?

Hi All, You know how if you install something or upgrade something with apt or apt-get, sometimes you get the text explaining something. It is usually a large block of text and you have to hit q to quit it so it will finish the install. Is there a way to make it auto hit q for you when entering the ...

It doesn't always work unless I run that command. Any reason why it isn't?

Tools for managing SMB shares

Hi all, I had a file server that was up and running for a few years but something happened and I am having to rebuild my server. I am needing a way to configure smb shares without having to do it from the command line or text editor. I was using Gadmin-samba but it does not seem to be working correc...

Pi Zero-W usb and hdmi

Hi all,

I am trying to get connector or dongle for USB and one for HDMI that are as small as possible for Pi Zero W. I remember reading online that there is adapter that will change micro USB to regular USB and the same with HDMI. I wanted to know has anyone come across anything like this?

Re: Want Gaming, Kodi and music playe

Its definitely possible but it requires alot of work. You come out better creating a dual boot setup with retropie. Install dual boot of OSMC with the lite version of raspbian. Install retropie on lite raspbian. Now you have a dual boot between kodi and retropie. Kodi can be used to play music as we...

Re: Possible to mount SMB shares from raspbian on Mac?

I am going to add 2 screenshots. One is of the command line. One is if I try to mount the share from finder. I can load other SMB shares from other devices. Its just the raspbian smb server that I can't mount.

Possible to mount SMB shares from raspbian on Mac?

Hi all, I have a file server I setup to stream content on my network. I can mount the folders on other RPi's running raspbian or arch, I can mount it on Windows and Android. I just cannot get the same folders to mount on a Mac. I have tried it by hostname and ip and the result is still the same. The...

Hi all, I wanted to know if it is possible to setup a VNC server that auto starts but is not linked to a specific profile that auto logs in. I wanted to change my pi server to be completely headless at this point. I do not want my pi auto logging itself in though. Is that possible with the VNC serv...

Its not under that either. The base image was not the latest Jessie but was upgraded to that. I dont know if that makes a difference.

Re: Setup Auto Start VNC server

Hi, yes the RealVNC service mode server can do this. This should be installed by default in Raspbian Pixel, and can be enabled via the Raspberry Pi configuration app. Then configure your Pi to boot to desktop but not auto login. When I do the raspi-config there is no option for VNC. I was thinking ...

Re: Is there any easy way to speed up apt-get on raspbian?

Its both the update and the dist-upgrade but not the installation part. It usually sits on a get line for 5 minutes or more at time. I used to could setup an image with various packages via scripts in a couple of hours. Now I have to let it run all night because the download takes so long for the up...

Is there any easy way to speed up apt-get on raspbian?

Hi all,

I am noticing the apt-gets update takes forever now when it used to be faster. I have gigabit connectivity in my home so I know its not the connection. While I know the pi wont even go that fast apt-get shouldn't be downloading in kbs.

I typed in what you stated and got 600000. So something is definitely up. The config.txt file is commented out on anything that is related to changing the pi's speed.

Pi has underclocked itself some how

Hi all, I noticed that my Pi 2 and Pi 3 are now both running at 600mhz instead of the 900 and 1.2 respectively. I only noticed this because kodi addons are taking some what longer load. To test this I installed another OS with kodi to see what is going on. In raspbian lite with kodi is where the pro...

I wanted to know how to create another account that has the same permissions as pi but not full root. This is to solve an issue with Kodi but at the same time still allow other applications to still work while not being full roots. Any ideas on how the default account is configured?

Re: Introducing PIXEL desktop: new Raspbian release

It was super slow for me too, had to use the torrent option. You could have possibly used noobs to install it and it would download it directly to the SD card.
