I'm a complete beginner. I don't fully understand this command line stuff. I'd really like to get my wifi working.

*Please* can someone help me?

Re: Where's the wifi icon?

For example could you write it in the style: Type in "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" and press return. If "yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" comes up then do this: zzz but if "aaaaaaaaaaa" comes up then do this: bbb I understand that doing that way must make it (and me) seem ridiculously simple, but this is all very ...

Re: Where's the wifi icon?

Thank you, although I wonder if kusti8 might re-write that in terms simple enough for me to understand?

Re: WiFi Issues ? Start here !

It all went well until step 4. I entered "etc/network/interfaces/" and it just said "no such file or directory".

Any suggestions?

Re: Where's the wifi icon?

BTW thanks to kusti8 for putting the instructions in a way that makes sense to someone new to all this. It is something frequently not done in 'help' files. In the article "Wifi Issues? Start here!" I got through the first 3 steps okay, but at step 4 it says "For Raspbian - Check /etc/network/interf...

Re: Where's the wifi icon?

Using the command "lsusb" I have determined that my dongle is an Ralink RT5370. If that isn't compatible, and because I already have two of these things, perhaps someone could point me to a UK supplier that sends the correct ones (I've read there are some that claim compatability but aren't). I real...

Re: Where's the wifi icon?

Thanka, that helped a bit, but "eft-click on the network icon and you should see a list of all visible wireless networks" didn't produce a list.

Re: Where's the wifi icon?

Thank you. That worked. At least it worked in doing the upgrade. There still seems to be a shortage of icons, in particular the wifi one.

Where's the wifi icon?

I have a Raspberry Pi B and the instructions say to set up the wifi (I have a suitable usb thingy) by first clicking the wifi icon. I can't find one. If fact several icons seem to be missing. Presumably I have an older version of the software. How do I upgrade? BTW teh command line stuff is beyond m...
