Thanks nobbit. Also, thanks jamesh and mahjongg for letting me keep both posts. Code fragment for those who are curious about the algorithm I 've shared the algorithm below in case anyone finds it useful for their projects. New first person shooter written in BBC BASIC running on RISC OS on the Raspberry Pi

Hi, So far I've written 10 games on over the last 3 years developed with the Raspberry Pi. The latest is a first person shooter written in BBC BASIC and running at up to 60 fps using PlOT 85 (the triangle command) for the vector graphics and system sprite scaling calls for 'billboarding' the zombies...

Original Game Development

Hi, I've been developing original games on the Raspberry Pi for the last 3 years. Here is a video of a recent game that I've released: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2b85V9-glI Its a sort of Lemmings style game, but with tools rather than assigned skills: All music and graphics are original. The s...

16 channel / 4 waveform/ sample modulation for RISC OS Pi

Hi, I guess this is something a little left field or retro perhaps: I've written a synthesiser operating system extension from scratch on RISC OS which is a bit like a fusion between a Commodore 64, BBC Micro, Korg M1 and sampler. Here is a You Tube video of a demo/talk I gave earlier this year: htt...

Re: What are people doing with RISC OS on the Pi?

I am working on new games, a synthesiser/sound module and also trying to understand how to improve RISC OS. In the meantime, whilst I develop on the Raspberry Pi, I also support Overlord running on other hardware such as Virtual Acorn. This is a video showing Overlord running on Virtual Acorn. https...

Hi all,

Overlord was written on RISC OS Pi and as such will also run on hardware other than the Raspberry Pi. I've uploaded a video of the game running on an emulator:

Re: Anyone making games with RISC OS on the RPi?

Hi David, Thanks. I'll check out that micro SD card. Glad to hear you're enjoying the game. In future projects I've been thinking about including a crunched version. But the time spent QAing and betaing the uncrunched code was a bit high for me to take the risk of distributing a crunched version pos...

Re: New 2.5D Game Released for RISC OS Written on the RPi

Hi, On RISCOS (n.b.. this is not Linux), you can call the 2D graphics operating system directly via SWI (i.e. SYS) calls. This is fairly simple to do and the called functions run ARM code to do the graphics functions rather than use the GPU, but they're quick enough. For example I use 'SYS"OS_Sprite...

Re: New 2.5D Game Released for RISC OS Written on the RPi

Hi ti84, I've not seen benchmarks that I feel confident in which compare Python versus BBC BASIC V. However, a friend of mine helps to run a Coder Dojo and had a go at writing a computer game with the kids but gave up because Python did not offer high enough performance. I understand that on RISC OS...

New 2.5D Game Released for RISC OS Written on the RPi

Hi everyone, I've spent the last 10 months writing a new game which I've now released through the !Store on RISC OS. Full source code is included for tinkering and making new games. Its in BBC BASIC V, which I found surprisingly powerful with its ability to call operating system SWI's directly. Its ...

Re: Anyone making games with RISC OS on the RPi?

Yes. I've written a game on my Raspberry Pi 1 called "Overlord" which is now available for download in the PlingStore and is priced at £9.99. Overlord was officially launched at the 2015 Wakefield Show. This is a 2.5D/3D game in the style of Gyrus/Tempest featuring 47 minutes of original music. The ...
