Desoldering ethernet: breaks wifi on rpi3?

Hey there, I'm working on a project where I need to thin down the RPi, so I followed directions from Adafruit on the Diet Raspberry Pi tutorial ( https://learn.adafruit.com/diet-raspberry-pi/overview ) and desoldered both of the USB elements and the ethernet as well. I thought I had done it successf...

Sonar and Rotary Coder... at the same time!

Hey all, So, I'm making what's turning out to be a pretty difficult project for me to code. In short, I'm making a speaker that will play audio when you get near it (thanks to a sonar), with a knob interface (rotary encoder) that allows you to change volume and/or track. And I’m writing it all in Py...

Re: Rotate display 90º?

OK, I only ever tried lcd_rotate=2 and it also flipped the touch screen upside down to match. What I saw mentioned in the first couple of posts is display_rotate=1. That's not the same thing. display_rotate only rotates the image, it doesn't rotate the touch calibration to match. lcd_rotate flips b...

Re: Rotate display 270º?

I am interfacing a 5 inch HDMI LCD(B) with raspberry pi 2. I am able to rotate screen by 270 degrees using 'display_rotate=3'. But, I am unable to achieve the change of axes of touch. I tried all the xinput commands suggested and created a '.sh' file bt touch is not changed. How can I achieve a por...

Re: Strange issue with touchscreen, Jessie, and chromium

Well, in typical fashion, after fidgeting for hours and hours, it's within 5 minutes of posting on the forum that I figure out the solution. It seems as though adding the flag --touch-events takes care of the issue. My best guess is that for some reason, chromium has trouble detecting a touchscreen ...

Strange issue with touchscreen, Jessie, and chromium

This is one of the weirder bugs I've found. Here's the deal: right now I have it set so that at boot, chromium-browser launches fullscreen to a URL (as an app, using the --app= flag). BUT, when it boots, I can't use click-and-drag elements (think like the demo here ) with the touchscreen. BUT, it wo...

This was happening to me too, until I realized I was being an idiot and the SD card had slipped out a bit—are you sure it's properly seated?

Re: Rotate display 90º?

I was referred to this thread while attempting to get my raspberry pi with the 7 inch official touch screen to rotate the display AND touch screen 90 or 270 degrees. I am very inexperienced with raspberry pi, Linux, etc. and could use some help. I followed the directions until I ran the command in ...

Re: Rotate the touchscreen display? [SOLVED]

I have read through this thread and those linked within and what i am reading is that a method to rotate the screen 90 or 270 degrees AND rotate the touch interface isn't documented here. I understand that a portrait orientation isn't as efficient, however for my application it is required due to s...

Re: Long distance power for Pi?

You could do it the way PoE (Power over Ethernet) does it, and have a 30-40V DC supply at the mains end of the cable, then a 30-40V to 5V converter at the Pi end of the cable. The high voltage means dropping a few volts won't cause a problem, but it's not high enough to be dangerous. You might even...

Long distance power for Pi?

Hi there, I have a project involving mounting a Pi 2 and the official Touchscreen to a wall, but the problem is that I do not have an outlet very close to the space that I'm attaching it to. Right now I have a 15' USB cable powered by a 2.3A power adapter and it's giving me the rainbow square in the...

Re: Rotate display 90º?

Don't mind me, just talking to myself. Figured out how to make it work. First you have to install xinput. $ sudo apt-get install xinput Then list your displays: (if you're on the Pi) xinput --list (if you're on the Rasp Pi via SSH) DISPLAY=:0 xinput --list I'd guess that every display is the same na...

Re: Rotate display 90º?

Nevermind. Figured it out. sudo nano /boot/config.txt Add one of these to the bottom: display_rotate=0 Normal display_rotate=1 90 degrees display_rotate=2 180 degrees NOTE: You can rotate both the image and touch interface 180º by entering lcd_rotate=2 instead display_rotate=3 270 degrees display_ro...

Rotate display 90º?

Hey there,

I had a previous project working with an Adafruit piTFT that I had with the display rotated (so that it's viewed like a smartphone vs. like a laptop screen_.

Any ideas on how to rotate 90º (not 180, like the config.txt commands do)?

Thanks!

Re: Text overlay on omxplayer?

Made a pretty big breakthrough on this thanks to a translated post I found on Google. I got an error when I attempted to run hello_font: assertion failure:graphics.c:269:gx_priv_restore():egl_result Aborted Then I found out what I had to do to get it working. $ Sudo raspi-config Advanced Options -> ...

Re: underlay/overlay layer support

To see this in action, run omxplayer, and then launch hello_font. You will see the font layer superimposed on the video. I'm trying to do something just like this, but when I launch hello_font, I get an error while omxplayer is running: assertion failure:graphics.c:269:gx_priv_restore():egl_result ...

Bumping this up. Honestly, at the end of the day, I'd just love something to display text without a background window, preferably straight on the command line.

Text overlay on omxplayer?

Hi there, I'm looking to build a project for my grandmother that involves making a TV-like interface so she can watch the videos/shows she loves. omxplayer seems to be great for video playback, but there's one thing I can't seem to accomplish: I want text overlay on top of the video playback so that...
