Hello I am using Raspbian on my pi and I have installed PiVPN. Everything is working great except one issue. I tried to use my no-ip.org address that I have had for years but when I try it tell me the DNS address is invalid. If I use the default setting for the public IP everything works great. I wo...

I can't believe how fast it is now that I am running fresh but I am not able to use my USB Gigabyte NIC that I have always used. After Fixing Samba Share issue I can no longer RDP into RPi [Fixed]

Hello so I was having issues with accessing my samba share from my Win 10 client to RPi using raspbian. I fixed it by editing my smb.conf file. I was always able to RDP and SSH from my Windows 10 but after I fixed my samba share issue, the RDP seemed to stop working. Is smb.conf related to XRDP into...

Re: SMB share with Windows 10

Man still can't get it to working. So Share 1 I have set up as no guests allowed and Share 2 I am trying with guests allowed. Share 1 is asking for credentials and Share 2 just gives the error that I don't have permission and to contact admin. Share 1 gives and error that the share already exists an...

Re: SMB share with Windows 10

try this edit on your config.txt ; valid users = %S located in the Share Definitions, just below directory mask = 0777 Yeah, that's probablky a good ides. %S probably ain't usable for "valid users". From https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/current/man-html/smb.conf.5.html: The following substitutes ap...

Re: SMB share with Windows 10

Just another quick question, what credentials should I be using when trying to connect.

I am assuming I should be using the SAMBA user and password I set up on the pi.

Should I be using root? or the pi user on the RPI?

Re: SMB share with Windows 10

When I click on the Pi from Windows PC in Network I can see my two shared drives. It does not ask me for a password to see this and I have removed the credential save from the Windows Credential Manager. You could still be using SMBv1, try adding 'ntlm auth = yes' to your smb.conf, restart Samba an...

Re: SMB share with Windows 10

do you have the same RPi "user" name in Windows10 user list? have you set permissions for that "user"? No I do not have a user named pi on my Windows 10 PC. I thought it was using the creds I setup with SAMBA on the pi. So I should created a user called pi on Windows 10 PC? Update: I have created a...

Re: SMB share with Windows 10

Can you confirm what you actually have. I now suspect that what you have is a USB hard disk connected to a PI running raspbian with samba being used to share it over your LAN. Now, to address your latest issues: What's the exact error message thrown by windows. Are you logging into the shares from ...

Re: SMB share with Windows 10

You've got some errors there: In the first section quoted above, Writeable = Yes only guest = no Looks like you have a line break in the wrong place. Should be before "only" In the second section, Public = yes Guest ok = yes has a similar error. The line break should be between "yes" and "Guest" no...

Re: SMB share with Windows 10

I was really hoping not to use SMB1 for exactly what you mentioned ... secuirty implications.

I thought by adding the version=SMB3 in my smb.conf on the pi would for it to use version 3. Am I wrong about that?

Re: Help Getting a Gigabyte USB NIC working on my pi 2

How about ~40%-50% faster when copying large files to the client? (from RPi2 server) And about 20% faster for copying large files to the server. A nice boost - still far behind a NAS or server designed for Gigabit - but every little bit helps! p.s. Add it just before the 'exit 0' Regarding "Is a US...
