Re: Contemplating purchasing a RPI, Just a few questions...

You can of course run multiple things at the same time, kodi we'll quite happily run with retropie, and I also run Logitech media center to steam music.

switching audio between HDMI and USB audio

I'm running kodi on raspbian, but I'm thinking about adding squeezelite and USB audio device to play music. Can I use these in tandem without any issues, or will I have to switch all audio output to either the USB or HDMI outputs ? I'd like to use the TV purely for kodi, and wire up the USB out to a...

which VPN client ? and how to configure

I've got a VPN service I'd like to connect to, but am struggling trying to find info to show me which client to use and how to configure it. There's loads of information on setting up servers, but little on just the client. From my mac all I need to configure is the remote server, username/password ...

Re: apt-get fails for all packages

sorry for answering my own question, I found an old Debian forum which listed a fix for a similar package. I delete the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/sonic-pi.list , ran apt-get update , and then apt-get install sonic-pi --resintall to get things back to normal. Now I can install other packages again, hap...

Re: apt-get fails for all packages

unfortunately I have the same issue, disk space if fine, 4gb free, ran apt-get update and it complained about a dpkg error, suggested I use sudo dpkg --configure -a to clear it. There is nothing in /var/cache/apt/archives/ which is sonic related. bit confused about where to go from here. dpkg: unrec...

apt-get fails for all packages

when I try to use apt-get to install any packages, it always fails with files list file for package `sonic-pi' contains empty filename I can't remove the sonic-pi package with either dpkg -P or apt-get remove , it keeps saying the same thing. I've done an apt-get update but I keep getting back to th...

Re: RPI 2 kodi not working

I set mine up as per C-Fu's posting above and all worked well. Today I added kodi-standalone to startup automatically, and I removed the keyboard. For some reason the remote HDMI-CEC doesn't work any more, is that because I unplugged the keyboard ? I'll try in the morning, but if thats the case, wha...

Re: RPi 2 - Web server performance and questions

Perl is easy enough, I use mojolicious which comes with it's own daemon to run as a webserver , that way you don't need nginx, apache etc. First thing I do is to install perlbrew, then use that to download and install the latest perl ( compiles in just over 1 hour ) , then install cpanm, then use th...

Re: New Complete Web-Based SqueezePlug Version Available

Sorry, I did not get you! Do you use a multi boot system or all on one installation? If all on one, use SqueezePlug & MAX2Play as basis and install Retropie on top! Greetings, Thomas Hi Thomas, I'm not using multi boot, it's all in the same raspbian base. I was hoping to just download a script or s...

Re: RetroPie Setup - Auto-installer/updater for RetroArch ga

Hi, I installed manually on Raspbian as per the instructions on https://github.com/petrockblog/RetroPie-Setup I don't see a N64 or SNES emulator when I launch emulationstation, so how do I get those to appear ? I re-ran the retropie_setup.sh script and added experimental packages 115 (N64 MUPEN64Plu...

Re: New Complete Web-Based SqueezePlug Version Available

sorry, should have been clearer.
I'm running Raspbian, latest version, I manually installed Kodi and retropie on top, so I can choose which to start.
I'd like to also run my squeezebox's from the same server, so wondered if I could do that manually via an install script ?

Re: Prevent script running simoultaneously

I used the technique below for all my perl scripts, works very well even if the machine crashes whilst running. #open a lockfile, to make sure we're the only process running use Fcntl ':flock'; # import LOCK_* constants my $lckfile = '/wherever/scriptname.lck'; open(LOCKFILE, "> $lckfile") or die "C...

Re: New Complete Web-Based SqueezePlug Version Available

If I wanted to install on an existing server, how would I go about doing that ?
I'm running Kodi & retropie , and would prefer to have squeezplug running on the same Pi.

Re: RPI 2 kodi not working

If I did the above method and installed kodi on top of raspbian , what would be the best method to boot with no keyboard and have it automatically start kodi?
( or of I do have a keyboard then give me a chance to stop that process by pressing some key )

Re: Can Pi2 be used as a webcam surveillance center?

ditto, I'm trying to set something up this week before I head out there. I bought the camera which plugs directly into the Pi, it works really well. Bought a clear case and also a small camera container off eBay (just to protect the board), and I've simply taped that on top of the case. My first tes...

wifi dropouts on Edimax EW-7811UN

I bought a Edimax EW-7811UN adapter after seeing it mentioned on several builds/blogs. Very easy to setup and use but I'm having issues connecting to it. I've got a Pi2 and am using the latest Raspbian build, I installed nginx, setup port forwarding and also setup a freedns account to point to the ex...

Re: Can Pi2 be used as a webcam surveillance center?

is it just motion detection you're after ? I'm playing with raspistill to generate time-lapse videos, it's works great. Using mencoder to stitch all the photos together, or ffmpeg on a mac (bit quicker). I've got a small web server that lets you take an immediate snapshot, or view the time-lapse vid...

Re: dynamic ip address and apache home server

just done this myself, first step is to setup a webserver and port forwarding, so you've done that. Next is to create an account with a free dns , which will create point to your home IP address, I used http://freedns.afraid.org/. I created a Dynamic DNS which points to my home web server. You'll ne...
