Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Hi ccrisan, I've been running MotionPi successfully for a couple of months now, works great, I have been upgrading to the latest releases, but recently one or the other of my USB camera would stop working and on the UI i'd see.. "Unable to open video device since xxxx-xx-xx xx:xx:xx" etc. In motione...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Boothy i'm using version MP20150317 and I can see resolution settings for my USB cameras there. Perhaps you could just downgrade to check if your cameras are able to have different resolutions first on a known version Thanks I did remove all cameras and just added back one only but could still not s...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Hi ccrisan, I'm currently concerned about any unauthorised access to my MotionPi setup. I'm not a big expert on security and fairly new to this linux stuff, so I've done a few things to sort of increase 'security' - changed port number 22 to something else for SSH - introduced RSA keys and disabled ...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Thanks for the response but i think 'sudo' and 'apt-get' doesn't work too well with MotionPi as it's based on Buildroot rather than Raspbian. ~i think. :( sudo apt-get install fail2ban That process monitors /var/log/auth.log and blocks any attempts to break in to your system with an iptables rule.

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Hi ccrisan, Today I noticed some logs in my MotionPi (Rpi) which seemed very strange! It seems someone with the IP 93.174.231.58 from Russia? and from various ports was trying several times to login as user admin with a password but failed and kept trying. It looks like a compromised computer who wa...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Use NAS (Network Share) option for storage to save all motion pictures or videos remotely stored away incase the burgler decide to steal the rpi too lol to remove evidence. That is off course a good idea, but then I would loose the opportunity to upload the pictures to dropbox as soon as they are ta...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Hi ccrisan, I'm running the latest version of MotionPi (20150317) and I have 3 x USB2.0 cameras attached to a raspberry pi 2 through a 7 PORT USB HUB. The cameras work smoothly with MotionPi and I've had them up for 7 days in a row with no problems and lags. But...when I do a reboot of the system us...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Hi ccrisan, Just a quick question regarding motionpi releases. As you now have many different versions for pi and pi2, bananapi etc.... Which ones go on what boards? * motionpie-20150215.img.gz <---- Is this for RPI (1) B+ * motionpie-raspberrypi-20150215.img.gz <----as well as this one? * motionpie...

Re: RPI sendEmail doesn't work, help!

Yes, actually I'm not using raspbian. This works perfect in Raspbian, but I'm using a new OS/firmware that has been designed to create a home made CCTV system. It is based on BuildRoot and therefore all the commands that work in Raspbian won't work here. :( cat /etc/*-release NAME=Buildroot VERSION=...

RPI sendEmail doesn't work, help!

Hello all. So I've got a firmware on my raspberry pi which have been developed by someone and the OS is based on BuildRoot and uses motion as a backend. So, basically I'm trying to set up a script that will email me the external IP address of the rpi everytime it changes. The scripts I'm using are: ...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Hi ccrisan, I would like to setup SSH_Keys to connect via PuTTY into the raspberry pi running the latest version of motionPi. I have generated the keys using: 1) ssh-keygen 2) Then I renamed the ' id_rsa.pub ' to ' ssh_authorized_keys ' 3) Copied to /data/etc/ssh_authorized_keys 4) Rebooted pi so th...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Hello All, This is a question for everyone and, would appreciate all your responses if possible. I'm currently putting together a CCTV system and currently I've got 1 USB webcam (Live! Cam Sync HD) which works great with MotionPie (thanks to ccrisian). As most of my camera/cctv will be based outdoor...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Hi ccrisan, Since it's possible to run the camera in high resolution and taking pictures then would mean, overtime.. it will require a lot of disk space to store it and, I wanted to mount a network drive to MotionPie and was wondering if that'll be possible? Initially I was planning to mount box . c...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Hi ccrisan Thanks for the help earlier. As part of working on another project with a raspberry pi, I had some scripts under: - /usr/bin/ - /etc/ Which would create a file ".ipaddress" under /tmp and hold the external ip address there and, then using a cron, keep checking the external IP (router) ip ...

Re: Surveillance camera based on BuildRoot and Motion

Hello ccrisan . My name is saffi , and first of all thank you for your good work on this project and the time you have devoted to it. I had a question regarding MotionPie . I wanted to make some changes to the UI that we see when we open it in our browser (Chrome) and to do that, i believe there are...
