Re: Pi-Jukebox

Managed to get pi-jukebox running [Mr Burns] Exxxxcellent! [/MB] well to a point. Ah. Managed to listen to the radio station thru the jack plug (powered speakers) but cant hear any of my music files playing. I assume that the radio station is being played via Pi-Jukebox. I haven't looked at the cod...

Re: Make It *Tell* You The Address?

lets put that command in cron Funny you should say that - that's *exactly* what my RPi does. It's a prototype Internet Radio and, in order to control it, I have to know its IP address. (That changes when it's connected to a phone-generated hotspot.) Funny and simple solution anyway. Like it. Glad y...

Make It *Tell* You The Address?

Connect a pair of headphones and have it *tell* you its IP address:

Code: Select all

flite -voice kal16 -t "i p address is "
echo "$(hostname -I)" | sed 's/./& /g' | sed 's/\./ dot /g' | flite -voice kal16
Regards,

Mark.

P.S. I've no idea what it says if it doesn't *have* any IP address... :)

Re: Pi-Jukebox

Many Thanks chAos for your reply. You are welcome. :) I guess i go and find another project that uses the touch screen Indeed. Up until PiJ came along, I was quite happy using "monothilic" (all in one program) music players. However, having played with MPD and its clients - including writing some M...

Re: Internet radio app for Raspbian

Perhaps you should have a go at building a "real" Internet radio. I've gotten mine to the "nail it all to a piece of wood stage". Currently, my "radio" comprises a cheap (CD-less but Bluetooth-enabled) car radio, a Pi, an Adafruit LCD, an SLA and DC-DC converter and a cheap pair of car speakers. For...

Re: Turn Pi Into Analog Receiver For Speakers

I want to take the analog connection from a turntable tonearm and connect those analog cables with a Pi. Will RIAA equalisation not have to be done somewhere? Perhaps things have changed, but when I was interested in this sort of stuff in the 1980s, the equalisation was done in the amplifier. I rem...

Re: GitHub And Cloning A "Beta-Test" Version Of Software

In general, there will be a 'mainline' repository, that accepts all the changes from elsewhere. That's the one you will want to use as will have all the latest accepted changes Clone that repo. Done that. The trouble is that people are adding fixes and enhancements that I'd like but they aren't bei...

Re: GitHub And Cloning A "Beta-Test" Version Of Software

Thanks for your reply. Indeed, the problem is that several people *are* fixing bugs and I'd like to try the fixes out. (One of 'em fixed a bug that I reported and I downloaded the repo not realising that the fixes hadn't been "pulled". I felt a bit of a fool when I reported that the fixes didn't wor...

GitHub And Cloning A "Beta-Test" Version Of Software

I'm interested in running this software on one of my RPis: https://github.com/notandy/ympd I've created an account on GitHub and managed to download (via the "download ZIP" link), compile and run the code on my RPi. The thing is, other people are enhancing the code and I'd like to be able to clone a...

Re: Will this portable music player work?

Just added two buttons to the project. One for Starting/Rebooting and one for shutting down(button press runs scripts that does "sudo shutdown -h now"). I want to do the same for *my* project. I was hoping to use the GPIO3 (IIRC) approach to allow shutdown and start-up (from "sleep") but, unfortuna...

Re: Will this portable music player work?

How is your project coming along? Well, not *quickly*... :) As I get older, I tend to "prevaricate around the bush" and so my gear is still piled up on top of each other. I've bought a cheap (twenty pounds) "headless" car radio from Aldi. It *doesn't* have a CD drive built in but *does* have an FM ...

I'm doing something similar, myself. In my case, I'm using this software: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=109136 Unfortunately, the author seems to have gone "AWOL" and hasn't posted for some time. After finding this thread, I've taken an interest in this sort of thing myself: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=109136 MPD seems to run OK on a Pi and my intention is to use the OP's software to make an Internet Radio (that does what *I* want). Mark: Thanks for your reply. I have another question. Re: Raspberry Pi touchscreen mpd player

The source cites "Host" but it should say "host". It seems, to me, that either all calls to SETTING_GET() should test for a non-existent item or it should return an empty string (or whatever the Python equivalent is) if there's nothing there: def setting_get(self, section, key): if self.setting_exi...

Re: Raspberry Pi touchscreen mpd player

Hello, Mark, [a] I now launch PiJ at system startup via a local CRONTAB entry. The only problem with this is that I can no longer get a chance to see the IP address. In practice, I've got my DHCP server configured to issue IP addresses "for ever" but it's not unknown for hiccoughs to occur. Perhaps ...
