No Pi Smile

Last post. Bad luck for me. Tried everything to optimize the RPI B+. It was only a 115kbps serial link I needed to make work, but the python/Linux lag time was bad enough that my old Pentium 1 166Mhz with W98SE and VB6 worked better. I'll find another use for it. :( I had even used flush serial tryi...

Read only SD, LXDE

Ok, googled and googled.
Anyone successfully gotten simple LXDE up with a Read-Only fstab setup?
Advice, anything?

I've poked at ln -s with no success.

Still have .XAuthority and xlog issues, no start with

Startx python app.py

And- be nice- please don't ask why.

Optimizing 115K pyserial

I have a RPI B+ running raspbian. Python 2 code. a single LX window started with startx (just the one window for a GUI) just a silly thing right now. Uses tkinter, no problems. Pyserial com at 115200 baud. Window updates speedy, but the data sure doesn't. I haven't yet written much code, but am look...

Re: Startx python script - no mouse [SOLVED]

OH YEAH,
I'd also done this:
cd /usr/share/icons
mv Adwaita Adwaita_mine

And the ugly white line at the edge of the screen?

Under my tkinter window creation:
self.place(x=-1, y=0, width=641, height=400)
self.createWidgets()... Etc.

Re: Startx python script - no mouse [SOLVED]

Hey! Presto! I got lucky! 1. I plugged in another mouse. Invisible mouse clicks started working! 2. I read about making the pointer invisible in python. Wound up with the answer by permutation and recombination. Turns out tkinter lets you make your mouse invisible on a PER WIDGET basis. I had a whol...

Re: Startx python script - no mouse

Nope. But I can only say it's a standard tkinter window with a canvas. I'd originally installed Raspian with the GUI on, I wanted to reduce overhead so I somehow (with help I'd read here) got the automatic startx turned off and set it to autolog me in and drop to the prompt successfully. It puts a d...

Re: Startx python script - no mouse

Just plain tkinter and python 2.
My program doesn't make any direct mouse references yet, just creates widgets and the window.
I can't understand why no mouse at all. I should add a key binding so I can quit, but I think ctrl-c got me out... And also ctrl-alt-f1 (new command line)

Startx python script - no mouse [SOLVED]

I'm a noob. Using RPI B+, Wheezy. No normal problems with mouse. I can start LDE with startx, no mouse or other problems. I have my pi configured to start at command line prompt. I'm trying to conserve resources by only having 1 window application. So... I type: startx /....python /.....myapp.py (Ex...

Re: Festival and SD cards

Ok. Well, see, the RPI came with the TF (SD was the older RPI - have one), and I had assumed that in command-line mode or single-window (startx app) mode that there would be less wear. DOS (gasp) didn't. My program is in python(2). If nobody can find out whether or not F assembles it's phrases in RA...

Re: Festival and SD cards

It is odd to me that you're unable to find information about festival. I didn't compile it (I don't have the skill, nor know C). I just downloaded the raspian package from github based on a page about the raspberry pi and speech synthesis. (That wasn't easy either) I needed a standalone package. It ...

Um, yeah, the Festival text to speech synthesis standalone application?
Yeah. 1 google.

Why did you bother posting a blank answer - that's the 2nd time he's done this to me BTW.

REQUEST post be moved to intermediate or advanced forum.

PS:
Should I be asking the university? I have no 'in' with them.

Python robot app - no mouse...

This is NOT a hardware problem. My mouse works fine. I'm new to Linux, but I'm trying to "trim the fat" from startx. My mouse normally works, but not when I try this: startx /usr/bin/python /home/myapp.py (path name forgotten) I get the wonderful window with everything else the way I wanted, just no...

RAM Drive, Temp files, and Festival TTS

I'm a noob trying to reduce SD Card wear and tear pre-emptively. I found the article on making one. But now I want to USE it. Is Raspian already set to behave itself? Not using the GUI except maybe a window under Python. And I have the (mistaken?) impression I need to set up Festival TTS to send its...

Need binary i2c dump for GY-271 compass

This is for my own education in I2C. I've been learning about bit bashing and I've (for laughs) been using an old parallax BS2. I developed some i2c protocols for it, but something in my conversation is out of order/missing. I'm wondering what I should be sending/receiving. I know the following shou...

Festival Speech Package

So... I prefer festival, lots of options, but- I can't wrap my head around the university lisp instructions, etc, etc, etc. I got the sing demo to work (had to type the xml file in), dunno how to make it sing something else. Would like to make a text file for it to speak with raw phonemes instead of...

Re: Mount NAS ET-CSWSINASU2-BK

After hours and plenty of googling, research, and many permutations, here's the answer: I first added to (for convenience) sudo nano /etc/hosts With the IP address and the host name like so: nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn HOSTNAME This was so the IP address could be called by name with this: sudo mount //HOSTNAME/...

I've tried the guest option too. Everybody- If you're using an Ethernet NAS, tell me what you use please. There's probably a hu...

This sticky link should be on a stickER on the Pi itself in RED. "Go here 1st". Important note for TOTAL noobs (like me): The Noobs SD card you BOUGHT won't destroy itself and crash when you install Raspian, so it's OK to go ahead and press GO. I say this because some users might think that it has t...
