ahh i see thank you mahjongg, if i enforce the detection of the HDMI screen using the config.txt. setting will this overcome the problem and can you point me in the direction of the settings?

Definitely DVi and has an external power brick, also good to check the voltage output. Apart from ebay there is also Gumtree, Friday-Ad, Freecycle/Freegle or even a Charity Shop which sells electrical goods..... thanks for the info fruitoftheloom its appreciated i'll stick a couple of pics up here ...

There is no driver to install, if use HDMi it should recognize as a standard HDMi Monitor. As the LVDS board is powered, the circuitry is responsible for I/O signals.
