Thank you both for your help, I now have a script that I think works, but cannot figure out the @reboot bit. Re: Help to diagnose a crash please

To close this off, it crashed again last night, convinced myself it was a failed hard drive, swapped it and suspected the new one had failed as well, plus several ssh authentication errors. Finally I replaced the power supply and it has been fine since. Many, many posts here suggest checking the pow...

Help to diagnose a crash please

Hi, I have a Pi 2 Model B v1.1 running headless for a control system, it boots from a hard drive. It has been running for several years, but on a couple of occasions it has crashed. It has just happened again and I am going through the logs looking for the cause. I have noticed this in var/log/messa...

WiFi drops out and will not reconnect

I have a Pi 2 with WiFi dongle which runs headless and records from a camera, the files are then uploaded to my server. It will run fine for hours, days sometimes weeks, but then it appears to stop. Investigation shows me that it is still running, following a power cycle I can see videos it recorded...

SSH breaks but ping still works

One of my Pi's which runs headless has an intermittent problem. The SSH connections breaks and I cannot re-open it, but I can still ping it, so it hasn't crashed completely. It has happened several times but can run fine for days. What can cause this? Running Raspbian Stretch I looked through the lo...

Re: Cannot install pysftp

No it is Jessie lite, runs headless so no desktop stuff.

How can I upgrade to Stretch? I thought that
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
would do it, but just tried that and it is still Jessie

Thanks for the reply, at least I know what faillog is now :) It locked up again shortly afterwards, I couldn't access the web page it generates and couldn't ssh into it, but I was about to have dinner so left it. When I cam back to it it was running again, so had recovered without reboot. I noticed ...

One of my Pi's, which runs headless, had crashed. Power cycle and it is up again but I am trying to determine what caused it, so a few questions - 1) How can I see what caused the crash? I have looked at some of the log files, the one which show something is daemon.log, here is an extract Nov 23 10:...

I can no longer search the forum. The search icon in the top bar is there, but that searches the main site not the forum. There used to be a search box just to the right on 'New Topic' from memory, but it is no longer there and I cannot search the forum at all.

Changed to a 3m USB3 cable, no difference, wifi dies after a few minutes. I did notice that it re-tries if I unplug the USB and plug in again, I also noticed that wifi is technically working in that it adds a neighbours wifi to the list, but will not reconnect to mine. Can this be down to using a do...

Apache and SSH both die

Re: wifi dies

It is a USB3 cable, but I have just ordered a 3M USB3 to be safe.

However if that was the problem I would have expected the wifi to maybe be unreliable but to be able to reconnect, whereas when it goes a reboot seems to be the only cure.
