Oh! Just to add. One other drawback. (Over a Win desktop) is - you will have to learn the command line crpytology that is Linux.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 as a primary desktop computer?

I wonder how it would be like to use Raspberry Pi 4 (with 4 GB ram) as a primary desktop computer at home. RPI4 seems to have enough CPU power and ram to run YouTube and rest of the typical websurfing smoothly, I presume (smoothly at least for a person like me who have uses a 13 year old desktop co...

You guys haven't been very helpful... Though somewhat funny.

Is mining DigiHash profitable, assuming electricity is free?
I'm curious to know more about how this electricity is "Free" ?

You guys haven't been very helpful... Though somewhat funny. Is mining DigiHash profitable, assuming electricity is free? If you have a source of truly free electrical power, you can make more money selling that than you can with the Pi. Free Electricity. Now that definitely IS something. In which ...

Re: How to make money with a Raspberry Pi?

I have two 3Bs that are not being used, and I would like to use them to make money. Looking for a way to 'sell' their processing power over the internet, such as bitcoin, though I would prefer an alternative to bitcoin. Does anyone have experience doing this? Please share. "Sell" their processing p...

Re: Official Raspberry Pi 4 Case (screw spec ?)

Hi All, Short story: Is there an official spec for the screw to be used if you want to screw the PI4 to the official PI4 case bottom part? Long story: I just received my RPI4 4Gb ram & official case. I have to admit that I failed to look into the details of the new RPI foundation case for the PI4 b...

Re: Just bought Raspberry Pi - can't get past yellow/red/blue/green screen?

Hi, I've just bought a new raspberry Pi, and followed all the instructions to set it up, but when I turn on the power, it goes to a red/yellow/blue/green screen and just gets stuck on it. I am new to raspberry Pi, and not hugely tech-y. I did some research, but to be honest, I got confused with ter...

Re: Official Raspberry Pi 4 Case (screw spec ?)

The mounting holes in the Pi (2.7mm) are designed to take 2.5mm fasteners. But there is sufficient "meat" around the pads to carefully drill them out to 3mm.

Re: School project involving freezer

As suggested, why not place your Pi outside the freezer? With just a run of thin wires to a pair of thermocouples. That way, your wife will be happy, the heat from the Pi won't disturb the equilibrium of your freezer and you won't need to immerse it in mineral oil either :) Perhaps drop the idea of ...

Hi bro

Can i upgrade LPDDR4 4GB or 8GB form RPi4 (2GB)?
is it need to modify boot or something?

HansonD
Simplest solution: Just buy the 4Gb version and keep the 2Gb version intact. Pi's aren't that expensive so far as computers go. No?

With this: https://uk.farnell.com/amec-thermasol/m ... dp/1892474
And this: https://noctua.at/en/nf-a4x20-5v

Now, no more than 40C while watching Youtube @ 1080p.
The Pi4 needs cooling regardless of what anyone says.

It's a 5 volt fan, so why not connect it directly to your 5 volt supply rather than any GPIO pins?
I definitely wouldn't connect it to the onboard 3.3V.

A "Desktop Computer" ? Depends what you're after. If it's general internet browsing, email, Youtube watching (still jerky at 1080p) a bit of programming. Yes. "Casual use" for sure. a desktop PC replacement, depending on your meaning? Absolutely NO. As well. "As is" without adding heatsinks or fan c...
