Re: Force RPi to use a specific interface for Internet connection?

Many thanks for the VERY helpful replies! Changed the addresses of the Wlan and Eth0 interfaces on both RPis per SurferTIm and bada bing, bada boom - both computers can see the Internet, all devices on our local network, AND the Ethernet connection between them is working. This is great, as it elimi...

Re: Force RPi to use a specific interface for Internet connection?

SurferTim - Thanks for the reply! Sorry to be a dunce here, but how would I go about something like that? I know that 10-net and 192-net addresses are for internal, non-Internet addresses, so I "assume" you mean I should use a 192-something on the RPi #2, correct? Can I simply assign a static addres...

Force RPi to use a specific interface for Internet connection?

Here is my situation: I have two RPi 3s, one is used for miscellaneous applications (mostly ham radio) and the second is a dedicated NTP/GPS-based server. Both have wi-fi capability and both are running fairly current versions of Raspian. Either one, as a stand-alone machine, can connect to the Inte...

No Sleeping After VNC

I am running a fairly recent level of Raspian Jessie on an RPi3. When I walk away from the computer for a few minutes, it goes into “sleep mode” where my monitor blanks out and the brightness level drops to about 25 percent. That is what it always has been doing. However, if I VNC into it from my iP...

MY problem is solved! The printer crapped out last month and I replaced it with a much faster unit - the Epson ET-3750.

Re: how to make desktop shortcut??

Was recently looking for a way to do exactly what darkbibble wanted and came across his this thread. As an FYI, his second post about using Type=application will only work if the word application is capitalized: Application. When I used the lowercase spelling I got the same error he/she did. Capital...

How to make icon to launch an app?

Hi - running Raspian on a Pi 3 and have a relatively newbie question. I have an app along with a folder containing several required files residing in another folder in my home directory. If I double click the app from within the File Manager, it works great. However, I don’t want to have to fire up ...

Question About GPS/NTP Server on RPi 3

If you are up to speed on how NTP servers work and how to configure them, please read on! Folks, several months ago I purchased one of the GPS boards offered by Adafruit. I installed it on an RPi 3 with a fresh copy of Raspian. Per an article I found on the web I got a GPS-based, PPS NTP server (STR...

Re: GPS on Breadboard - now what?

I've ordered a Pi Plate from Adafruit - I think this ought to do the trick for me, although my existing clear case top may not fit. But that is secondary at the moment. If the Pi Plate works and I can get this breadboard and ribbin cable out of the picture, I can address the case issue later. Thanks...

Re: GPS on Breadboard - now what?

Actually, I was rather hoping that someone might be able to suggest a small board that could be plugged directly into the GPIO "stack" on top of the Pi. I have no problem with soldering (been a ham radio op for 52 years), but a pluggable solution would be my preference.

Thanks for the input, though!

GPS on Breadboard - now what?

Hi All - I've successfully installed the Ultimate GPS via a breadboard, turned my RPi 3 into an NTP server with PPS, and have my other RPi 3 connected to it via Ethernet. Working nicely. However, having that breadboard lying on the desk, with it's jumpers hanging out, and that ribbon cable running i...

Ultimate GPS - Need Help With NTP

Hi All - I just installed the Ultimate GPS module on a brand new RPi3 that has a fresh copy of the NOOBS Raspian on it. I installed it via UART, not USB. I have the external antenna connection on it. All seems to be working OK - getting the red light flashing about every 15 seconds or so. During ins...

Re: Color "swatch" on Boot-up - Why?

Thanks for the replies, folks! Glad to know this isn't a problem-in-hiding. Funny that I see it on one boot-up card but not on the other. Maybe it's just timing. The one that I never see it on has a bunch of applications installed on it; the one where it is visible is a very fresh install of Raspian...

Color "swatch" on Boot-up - Why?

I just downloaded the current version of NOOBS onto my iMac, formatted a 32GB micro card using the SDformat program, and then copied everything in the NOOBS folder over to the Micro card. I put this card into a brand new Pi3, powered it up and after getting the install menu, told it to install Raspi...

Re: Epson WF3640/CUPS Problems

Thanks for the reply. The"printer-driver-gutenprint" application is already installed on my system. I has hoping to find a solution to the problem; buying a new printer, ...

Epson WF3640/CUPS Problems

Hi - hope someone can help me with this very frustrating problem. I have an Epson Workforce 3640 (WF-3640) attached to my home LAN. No problem printing to it from any other device on our network. I also have an RPi running a very current version of Raspian Jessie. I just installed CUPS 1.7.5 and wan...

Help Installing Free Pascal

Hi - I posted this a while back on the Beginner's forum, but got no replies - perhaps it was the wrong place, so I'm trying here... Background info: I have an RPi 3 running Raspian Jessie. Re: Pi 2 SD Card on Pi 3?

Folks - thanks for the replies. I bit the bullet and decide to go with Raspian Jessie. Put it on a new SD card this morning and it appears much more user-friendly and more rich in features than Wheezy. Reinstalling my applications will only be a mild PITA.

Thanks again... :D

Pi 2 SD Card on Pi 3?

Sorry if this has been asked before - I looked through the recent posts, but didn't see it having been asked. I've got a 32 GB SD card running my Rpi2. Will this card work in the new Rpi3 as is? After having loaded and configured quite a few applications, having to start from scratch with a differen...
