Re: Can't run snake pygame

It looks like you have a program called pygame.py, which is trying to import the pygame module. If this is the case, I would try saving the program with a different name - probably snake.py or something similar, so you know what it is. Let us know how that goes, and if it doesn't work, then can you ...

Re: Python absolute beginner

Hi again. There are no 'musts' anywhere here, just (too many) choices. You can simply use a text editor, save the files with a .py extension, and from a terminal type 'python3 name.py' to run it. Advantage: you can use a text editor that you are already familiar with. Disadvantage: most text editors...

Re: Python absolute beginner

Hi JohnSmith, The good news is, you have loads of choice ! The bad news is, exactly the same ... :? There are two versions of Python shipped with the Pi - 2.7.3 and 3.2.3 These are pretty similar, but do have some differences, so choice number 1 is: which version to choose to learn with ? Version 3 ...

Re: Basic coding problem!

Hi Mr Chips. The joy of a good forum is that there is always someone who can help you, and always someone that you can help in turn ! Also, I am really not that knowledgeable about Python - so in checking what I thought was the answer, I learned a bit more myself. Trying stuff at the interactive pro...

Re: Basic coding problem!

I'm no Python expert but ... You appear to be asking why you can't replace while True: GPIO.output(11, True) time.sleep(deLay) with while True: aTrue SleeP I would assume that this is because in the first case you have two function calls, while in the second you have two character strings. Also, the...

Re: So stressed, Pi won't start up!

A different approach would be to tell us roughly where you live, and try to meet with someone with a working set-up. (Use PM to swap physical/email addresses without the world having to know.) Swapping each component of the working system one at a time will enable you to determine which component(s)...

Re: New rasberrypi users, cant get into GUI

Startx is the answer, as mentioned. But to be a little more helpful perhaps ... The command you used it the change shell command (chsh). The Shell and the GUI are not the same. The Shell is a CLI (command line interface), the GUI is the graphical user interface you were trying for. Google for Linux ...

Re: Learning to Program - Tasks

<t>There have been (quite entertaining, but utterly futile) threads about what language is the BEST (TM).  I suggest that a more useful thread would be suggestions of programming tasks.  These could be achieved in any language, and if the program produces the required result, then it has worked. Sim...

Re: Any plans for a BloodhoundSSC style education programme?

<t>I am surprised there has been no follow up on this suggestion.  Surely it would be good publicity for BOTH of these projects to have some sort of overlap.  Is there not a role for a tiny, low power, light weight logging system that could be built from a pi ?<br/> <br/> Each project independently ...
