Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Hey Tozzi, for what it's worth, I haven't had another lockup so far after using rpi-update a few days ago. Wonder if they fixed the issue? *fingers crossed*.

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

On a positive note, I can report that the rpi-update seems to have fixed my B+. The ethernet no longer freezes on samba transfers and my Pi stayed up overnight while running a 500GB data transfer. Was there a performance change to stop it locking up or does the Pi still work as fast as it's suppose...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Have a Pi 3B+ too not long and getting these lockups sometimes as well. :( Seems to be related to video perhaps as it runs fine for several days but then locks up after being used in person through the HDMI TV? I would log onto Raspbian in person after having the Pi running for a few days and then l...

Re: Root needed for Raspbian software manager

Thanks for the help. You're right, with further research it does seem like the groups (or secondary groups??) get messed up somehow if you change the name. I couldn't figure it out even though 'groups photopuppet' seemed to show the same groups as you put, klricks. I changed the username back to pi ...

Re: Root needed for Raspbian software manager

Thanks Matt... I did change the username from pi to something else... Wonder if I messed something up by doing that. :(

Re: Root needed for Raspbian software manager

Apologies, I mean Raspbian Stretch! Whatever the latest edition is on this site? :) I'm talking about the default package manager... The one that appears when you go to Add/Remove Programs in the desktop. When you select something to install, it comes up with an authorization box that has Root in th...

Root needed for Raspbian software manager

Hi everyone and thanks for any help in advance... I'm having a little issue with the software manager in the Raspbian (squeeze) desktop, every time I try to install anything the package manager wants to use root identity for authentication and I can't find any way to get around it. I have the root p...

Re: Implications for Broadcom mobile unit sale

Even though I'm new to the forums (have used R-Pi for a couple of years now and haven't been able to fault it),I have to say best of luck to everyone there and anyway, you guys have the kind of knowledge and expertise that will always be needed, even if it's under a different name.

Implications for Broadcom mobile unit sale

I saw in the news that Broadcom is planning to offload their mobile chip division, and I'm wondering if this will affect the Raspberry Pi in future in that a lot of support comes from Broadcom staff working in the foundation and the chip volume deals and so on? Hopefully it still means stability for...
