Re: Freedom pop arrives in the UK - free sim with free data

By the sounds of it I think the phrase, 'you get what you pay for', applies handsomely in this case.

Re: How to turn on r.Pi after shutdown?

Sorry for the thread necromancy - and I bet it's answered more fully elsewhere - but I sort of stumbled on the solution to this over the weekend. I've built an internet radio where one of the buttons shorts pins 5 and 6 initiates a 'sudo shutdown -h now' command. This is all well and good (and works...

£20 already pledged ;)

Now if this was available on the Pi as well, I would buy it twice.

Re: Why Default Answer is "sounds like power issue"?

Power issues are quite common, though it's often the Micro USB cable that's the culprit rather than the power supply itself. Occasionally it's polyfuse F3. The advice I always give is "start with the Troubleshooting Wiki": http://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting#Power_.2F_Start-up It covers the comm...

Re: Gertboard parts list

I also lost a couple when they pinged out of the tweezers. Don't use a spring shut tweezer, user one you have to hold closed yourself. What I was going to do was use my long(ish) spring close tweezers as a clamp to hold the component to the board as I soldered it on (so the component and board are ...

Thanks for that.

I'll be using that when I get home tonight. I only had time yesterday for a brief look and a raised eyebrow at the size of the surface mount components.

Re: Gertboard shipping date.

*sigh* Just rang and told mine was awaiting shipment and had been since last Friday (12th). I'll ring back later this week if I don't hear anything.

No real biggy though as I don't have any free time until the weekend anyway (and I don't want to rush anything).

Re: Gertboard shipping date.

On the Farnell order it gives the date/time. Mine is listed at PO Number 08/08/2012 23:19 Have you had the email yet? Mine was definitely earlier than that. Probably about 1pm. I could look it up if it really matters to anyone. I haven't had the email yet but seeing your post yesterday has ma...

Re: Gertboard shipping date.

Just got an email from Farnell: Subject: Your Farnell Order Has Been Shipped. Your Reference: GERTBOARD :D So assuming it's here tomorrow, that's bang on the original shipping estimate I was given (which was week commencing 8/Oct/2012). Not much to complain about really. What date did you ord...

That's harsh and pretty unfair in the extreme. I'm willing to bet that they're just as annoyed about the delays as anybody else.

Re: soldering irons suitable for Gertboard?

Personally, I use a Weller butane gas iron that I've had for years (a 'souvenir' of a previous job). http://uk.farnell.com/weller/pyropen/soldering-iron-gas/dp/800417 It's convenient, heats up very quickly and has a lovely fine tip (no idea about it's wattage equivalency). The only problem is I some...
