Re: New 8MP Camera - Q&A thread

Wish I could get a refund or a credit for a free replacement camera. Considering it was unfocused and practically garbage from the beginning - of course tried to fix it and destroyed the lens with one slip in the process, making it literal garbage. Of course that part is my fault, but it doesn't mak...

I've attempted to search this thread but haven't been able to find relevant results because of the clunkiness of it. Has anybody run into the failed motion settings that result in a white page, unable to change or view them? I've tried reinstalling and removing to no avail. It always results in the...

Re: Solution planned for the bad lenses of the V2 8MP RasPi

UGH! And here I was coming to look for information as to why my "new" security camera was so blurry. Hopefully something is being done beyond attempting to adjust the focus... where's the QC these days  You did see Eben's statment linked above, right? https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtop...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Cool. Will try when I get home from work, thanks for the help! Say this all fails, what do you think next steps would be for fixing motion? I've tried apt-get purge/remove motion after the first failure to make sure it was wiped completely. What else would do the trick, any other stray settings and ...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Has anybody had recent trouble with motion not triggering captures? Working with a Pi B, brand new install of Raspbian and the latest btidey version 4.4.2R. My trouble: -If I haven't clicked the motion capture button, going to edit motion settings page results in "Motion not running. Put in detectio...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Does anybody have a quick and dirty cron job to enable motion detection between hours and disable at night? I noticed that there were some mentions in the topic, wasn't sure what experiences people have had. Basically just looking for something that turns it on during daylight, ~6am and off by ~9pm....

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Just following up on my original problem... I've since formatted the MicroSD card, reinstalled Raspbian (not NOOBS) and started fresh with only the 3 update steps (update, dist-upgrade and rpi-update) on a Raspi2. Motion detection doesn't work at the default settings with the interface. I'm lost at ...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Interesting tests, thanks for the help. Everything worked up to this part that I quoted. As suspected, motion isn't (for some reason) being detected. The file never gets created. Just checking. Did the test on browsing to cam_pic.php also work OK? Yeah, without problems. I'm also able to take pictu...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Next step is to check whether motion is being triggered. If you search for those commands in the motion.conf file in /etc/motion/motion.conf then you can temporarily edit them to something else. E.g. if you replace the 'ca 1' version by echo 'start' > /home/pi/motion.txt then if the motion is being...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Edit: Nevermind. New problem, as some have mentioned above. New Pi2, motion detection seems to do nothing at the moment. Process runs when button is clicked or run in terminal, but it never detects any motion, even with all default settings. Tried reducing the detection value very low, and still nev...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Has anybody encountered issues with clips being cut short or ending mid-motion capture? I'm getting lots of 2-3 second videos that are stopping in the middle of motion, and other instances where it will detect motion and then stop recording almost immediately, within milliseconds after it's detected...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

I feel stupid, but I'm not having any luck getting this installed or running. Following steps 1-5 in the first post seems to work. Well, until running the Web_Interface installer. First it results in an error about raspimjpeg, then at the tail end of the install it gives more errors. mknod: `/var/ww...

Re: Motion detection + High quality video + Fancy case!

Yeah, I'm working with the latest version. Will scale down to that size and see what the results are like. I did opt not to convert to mp4 because it seemed to be (though I could be wrong) missing captures due to encoding. Edit: Tried out conversion and it was okay, however recording at 1920x1080 re...

Re: Motion detection + High quality video + Fancy case!

I've had a pretty decent experience with your script, thanks for sharing it! I'm considering tweaking it to also capture lower res images, however I'm still tweaking settings to figure out what's causing video to slow down and accelerate at random intervals. If you've experienced that and figured ou...

Re: Unwanted Delay using Motion

Are you using the bcm2835-v4l2 driver to feed Motion? If so then I seem to recall that it does the same as OpenCV and doesn't set the framerate on V4L2 sensibly, and ends up with a significant overhead on the ARM discarding frames that it couldn't process in time. The frames-per-second parameter in...

Re: Motion - MMAL camera

You might want to try my Pi-specific optimisations described in this thread - http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=538398#p538398. motion originally does all its image processing and encoding on the CPU side, which is very expensive on the Pi even with overclocking - hence why in reali...

Re: Motion - MMAL camera

While this has likely been answered before, I keep digging up conflicting information from posts made in 2013. Can this version of motion (or any version) capture 720p video at 30fps upon detection? It seems to be possible from every spec I've read, and it works through raspivid, but motion always r...
