STICKY: Advice from first cohort

Have an open mind and access things at whatever level is comfortable for you. Challenge yourself but don't worry if others are doing things that seem difficult - there's no reason you won't get there eventually! Most of all, have fun :)

Re: RCE at CAMJAM

After the amazing experience which we had at Picademy it'll be great to see what comes out of the next two! Bigger and better each time until who knows!

Re: Edmodo group for children who are RPi users to connect

Seems kind of false though. The Internet is a great resource which you can use to help you - as long as the people are someone you could already walk up to in the school corridors...

How do you do collaborative projects with other schools and other countries with that set up?

Re: PiCademy Photos

A good idea although I don't have any photos that aren't on Twitter. As I took the photos directly within the Twitter app I don't have a copy on my iPad as well!

Re: Picademy Blog Posts

I have my live blog which covers the tweets from the day and then a write up of day 1 an day 2. I will probably include a reflection in the near future but it's in the queue behind many of my other posts! Re: Edmodo group for children who are RPi users to connect

Hi Simon, I think it's right to have concerns but I would say in this day and age we should be teaching children how to use these tools safely not outright banning. How are children ever going to cope in a digital world if it's entirely hidden from them for years and magically one day they're deemed...

Edmodo group for children who are RPi users to connect

If you have never heard of Edmodo it's a bit like Facebook but for children and is shutdown (you need a code to join a group and someone can moderate posts etc.) I am currently writing a blogpost about Edmodo so if you're not sure, I'll post that here when it's finished. My idea is that we could cre...

Re: TryPi our event ?

Almost a bit like the Science fairs in the states.

I do to know if anyone else here uses Edmodo but we could create a specific badge for the event which the children earn for taking part.

Re: Next steps/what we need...

It may be that between us we could gather a kit which is then loaned out to others? If everyone contributed one thing it wouldn't cost much but the challenge would be organising it and keeping it without a central body....

Re: RCE at CAMJAM

It would def be worth pointing out all the RCE at CamJam as if there are any new teachers at CamJam they can come chat to us and we can encourage them to get involved and on board. Almost like a troubleshooting from a school perspective.

Re: TryPi our event ?

Sounds good to me. It is prob harder for me to do things in the school holidays as we don't always have access to the building. Focussing people on a specific day is likely to ensure people get around to doing something. We could always include some live streaming or Skype into the event to connect ...

Re: How to get some pis

The World Cup idea is good, could use SonicPi to compose a new song for the World Cup. Like Ant and Dec's We're In the Ball and 3 lions stylee Could also do something like write a Scratch program which tells you about places in Brazil or routes to Brazil (like a travel guide) but an LED could light ...

If you have never heard of Digital Leaders check out my blogpost introducing it here: http://swaygrantham.co.uk/digital-leaders-children-in-the-lead-the-way-it-should-be/ If you have and you haven't got them set up yet, do it! They're an absolute asset when you don't have time to work things out or ...

What's been the most useful part of Picademy?

I was just wondering what everyone thought was the MOST useful part of Picademy and why?

My main motivation at any event is networking so I think it's been a great opportunity to meet other teachers who are happy to 'have-a-go'.
