Re: Kodi on Raspbian shows the desktop from underneath

But yes, it can be a race condition in the boot sequence. A "sleep 5" in the systemd script may solve your problem. Or better, if you want to autostart Kodi and keep the desktop on the background, is to do the option number 2 as explained here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=66&t...

Re: Kodi on Raspbian shows the desktop from underneath

A full log is needed for debug. Post it on any other sharing site, or just autostart it, do nothing and wait for the screen to idle, it should be small enough for paste sites.

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspbian Stretch

What about this repo: deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org buster main It looks like it has Kodi 18 for Buster? Yep, it may have Kodi 18 (Raspbian Buster has 17.6) but are both generic versions, not optimized for the RPi. They may run in all RPis if you select the VC4 fkms driver but it will run very ...

Re: Kodi unable to start GUI

Kodi available on Buster is still the Debian generic version, not optimized for the Pi. For it to work you have to select the opensource video drivers aka as VC4 FKMS or VC4 KMS. It will be slow and without HW video decoding. You will have to wait for a RPi optmized version. Is this a better idea t...

Re: Kodi is broken on raspbian buster

Thanks for the info, I read about it in Kodi and LibreElec forums, and I already saw the new branch in popcornmix github. One question: compiling this branch against the Mesa libs, will it work on the older Pies using the vc4-fkms ? I haven't tested that myself yet - we kept older RPis builds as is...

Re: Kodi is broken on raspbian buster

Kodi 18 isn't quite there yet with support for the new (v4l2) video drivers, this will be tackled in Kodi 19 (maybe stuff can be backported to Kodi 18, but it's way too early to tell). Also there's no HEVC v4l2 decoder at the moment (only an ffmpeg userspace implementation, which works quite fine t...

Re: Kodi is broken on raspbian buster

About Kodi on Raspbian Buster, the current Kodi version available is the Debian one and it is 17.6. It is a generic ARM version, not optimized for the Pi, that is why it is so slow on the Pi 3 and below. It looks like it works not so bad on the Pi 4, but without HW video decoding also. We have to se...

The Raspberry Pi part of that document made me laugh! I didn't read the document, only the Raspberry Pi part, but if I was them, I would be embaraced to reveal such thing. Come on, everybody knows that if you plug any kind of computer to a network (SBC, PC or even a smartphone) there are risks, and ...

Re: Linux distributions available

Since it is to run headless, I would go for Debian testing, currently Buster. Another option would be Arch Linux, it does not have releases/versions, it is a rolling release, so the software is updated as new stable versions becomes available. Although it is a bit more complicated to use and maintai...

It do work actually but not with certain video encoding as stated above ill get back the weekend

But Will check differences with 65 and 72 :)
It is confirmed by many people, video performance on 72 is much worse than in 65. For example:

Re: [HowTo!] Smooth youtube 1080p in Chromium

Hardware video acceleration in Chromium 72 is kind of broken. No matter what you do in the flags, it won't work smooth. Downgrade to Chromium 65.
