Images with DRC Option in bright light can turn out Yellow

Hello I have been trying to figure out an issue for a while and was looking for a little input. I have noticed that if the Dynamic Range Compression -drc option is on and the scene is brightly lit the image can come out yellow. I am setting my own awb gains but the issue seems to happen with awb off...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

Hello again I have a new question on this feature that was added back in 2014. I have been successfully using -awb off -awbg x,x for a while but have noticed it does not seem to work in conjunction with -drc high. I would like to use the 2 settings together is there anything that can be done to make...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

Thank you , I just tried the -awbg option and it works great. But as tried to grab the gain values from a just taken picture as towolf explained, it failed. As I looked into the JPG, the saved gain values of both were always "1.000". It seems that the -awb option there fore doesn't matters, I teste...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

I see this has been released and is working great Thanks again this is very useful for getting consistent WB results in controlled environments. It does not affect me as I am not using previews but I did notice the Previews are still doing their own AWB. That may be on purpose just figured I would m...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

Did the -awbg switch get removed from the latest firmware? I just did a api-update and it is now a invalid option according to raspistill.

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

x1.5 was just a number I used as an example. They vary from about x0.9 to x1.9 depending on scene. I'm not an expert here, but I'd start with auto mode and a grey card. Capture a JPEG. less foo.jpg (it'll whinge about being a binary file - ignore it), and in the first couple of lines you'll see a b...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

All done. Now to wait for the patches to filter through and be released. raspistill now allows -awbg <r_gain>,<b_gain> as an option, eg raspistill -w 2592 -h 1944 -tl 2000 -t 15000 -awb off -awbg 1.2,1.3 -o foo%d.jpg V4L2 supports the enums I'd mentioned, so v4l2-ctl --set-ctrl=white_balance_auto_p...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

I've just thought to check Dom's releases. The fix to stop AWB being rerun on every capture went in with https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/commit/3d56b986167d71dea03d6792655f9cad1afe2c1c - it was the cryptically titled "camera: burst capture performance fix" I do have some changes that allow ...

Agreed, thanks again for the progress.

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

Thanks again for you effort. Yes I get your point on promising sales, I was reluctant to even mention that, Knowing the environment the Pi is developed in. I was more intending to imply I hope to contribute one more small success story for the Raspberry Pi platform you guys have works so hard to make.

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

Hey I would like to ensure we don't lose focus < See what I did there :D on the main issue of this thread, which is being able to turn off AWB preferably by setting a fixed Kelvin value. Someone else suggested being able to take a reference shot of a gray card and storing and that would be great but...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

It changes during the preview It seems to always go from really warm WB to cooler. I assumed it was the CCD warming up / collecting more heuristics on the scene. I would prefer to have no preview and take the image faster but it seems to be tribal knowledge that you need to warm the camera CCD up fi...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

I am using Rasipstill AWB off I can supply the whole command line if you want it.

I have noticed the same. the Preview seems to change from Frame to Frame and the capture does not always match the end of the preview.

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

I believe my request is close to the original posters request. To turn off AWB. Which to me implies setting a fixed kelvin value. It would be nice to be able to specify that value via a pram. The act of that would completely disable AWB or at least ignore it.

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

OK Thanks for the update. This WB issue may kill my project in terms of using the Pi/Camera. Is there anything I can do? Bribes etc... ;) I have a controlled environment using a fixed color temp. What I need is to be able to set the color temp at 5500k. I will beg if needed...

Any news on WB control? I still would need a way of turning AWB off and preferably setting a Kelvin value.

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

What I dont understand is why you are seeing swings in WB under constant lighting conditions. It should stay constant. We did find some crappy code in the camera driver to do with exposure whist getting 60fps working, so I wonder if that might be affecting it. Once I get a new camera tomorrow I'll ...

Re: Permanently turn AWB off

Supposedly it is possible to turn off white balance for a *single frame* after which it bounces back again. But if you just need a single frame, maybe that is OK. This post claims it is possible to get 20 fps (perhaps at low resolution?) with the requirement to call "AWB OFF" before each frame. If ...
